Lapstone Zig Zag

An absolute Gem! This is such a peaceful walk and great exercise coming back up the steps! My 5 year old loves coming here! Highly recommended for kids who love nature. The creek at the bottom is beautiful.

Beautiful walk, traffic noise can be distracting at times. We parked our car at Napsack Park and went uphill to Napsack Street. It took us 50 minutes to get there and another 50 minutes to walk back.

Great place to walk the dog, and a really good walk if you've got a couple of hours to spare. The bridge is really cool, like an aquaduct of ancient Roman times but for modern Australia. You can walk across the bridge or just follow the path down to the bottom of the bridge and back up again like we did. There's a lot of stairs so definitely bring a drink bottle and be prepared to sweat a lot. Even if it's cold out. Trust me.

Very easy track good for beginners. Great flora on the way. Took my german shepherd who managed to climb all the way to Elizabeth lookout. The lookout is not so great. Lush rainforest and temperate gumtree forests.

Great walk along the old rail bed. Lots of history, great views, ominous keep out - Commonwealth land signs, and at least one staircase to no where.

Nice easy track from Knapsack Street. A few stairs to go down the Gully to experience the grandeur of Knapsack Bridge.

Some rocky trails to get down to the bridge from the top carpark on Knapsack, but once you're down there it's great. Nice views from the bridge and lots of walking trails either side and underneath

Starting at the end of Knapsack Street (limited parking) you’ll explore along a small section of the old Lapstone Zig Zag railway, the walk takes you along the old rail line, this section is an easy level walk, passing through sandstone cuttings and the old train station until you reach the end and view to the Knapsack Viaduct (Sandstone Bridge). You can continue on down into the valley, onto the bridge and beyond however there are steep stairs involved. Better signage throughout is needed as there are a few offshoot tracks that don’t indicate clearly where you’ll end up. At the time I went through there were several notices about water quality, only a real concern for dog walkers.

This is a nice walk with a bit of history thrown in. Park up at the end of knapsack street then walk down the old cutting. You can still see where they drilled down and put in the dynamite. Then through the old station and down the zig zag stairs to get to the viaduct. The oldest stone bridge in mainland Australia. You can see where they widened the bridge to turn it from a rail bridge into a road bridge. After that, have a nice walk down the path and maybe a picnic under a tree and finally walk back to the car. We did it with 3 small kids in about 2 hours.

A short 2km, easy, beautiful walk & one I have enjoyed my whole life.Mostly flat with an abundance of history, the walk opens up at the end with stunning views of the historical Knapsack Bridge and beyond.I definitely recommend it.
