Mercure Charlestown

The decor was a little dated, with peeling wallpaper and obvious high traffic marks in the carpet, but the staff were lovely, and some good options available with the breakfast buffet. The location, almost halfway between Charlestown square and Westfield Kotara, is really handy, and quite central to many places around Newcastle.We had a good sized family room and were quite happy with it. The toilet paper wasn't topped up during our stay, which was irritating, as we did run out on our check out morning, but that wouldn't stop us from staying here again.

I was thrown by the mixed reviews about this place, but what was amazing about this Mercure; was there was someone to check me in on arrival as I turned up after hours, I would advise ringing ahead if your going to be late which is what I did, the gentlemen that served me was so accommodating and informative.The swimming pool and outside spaces we're well kept, and the bar restaurant entrance way and breakfast areas were really well kept.I am aware that this is a older motel and really loved that my room had a private varander overlooking the valley.My bed was reasonably able comfortable and the shower and bath were adequate.I loved that their was a variety of channels on the telly.The kitchenette has a jug and basic amenities and rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels. There is a utility room which is free to use having both washer and dryer, ample parking around the rear end of the building.I also booked the breakfast buffet on my last day which I wished I had of booked everyday I stayed, as it was delicious and had a really good variety, the bar and restaurant area overlooks the pool and is a really nice space to catch up or make dinner reservations if you are wanting to entertain.I really loved my stay at Mercure and enjoyed visiting local surf beaches before and after work.

3 room changes for 2 of my travellers.Day staff friendly. Night staff not friendly.Restaurant food great when dining in, terrible when via room service.I had someone else’s hair all over my spare blanket.Parking was good.Room was average. Quite outdated. I couldn’t get the heater to turn up warm enough so felt cold all the timeHousekeeping was kind enough to get me another jug of fresh milk when I ran out.There was a group of 5 of us. There is more as part of my review that the staff of mercure are well aware of but I will not include here. Mercure went to great lengths to recompense for an unfortunate situation, for that I am grateful.

5* for service - Jake went above and beyond customer service and Ryan was great too. Actually everyone from the cleaning team to the barista were friendly, helpful and really made us feel at home and welcome. It's clean, and if you get an upstairs balcony you'll get a view and a sunset too. Pool was great, and only 10min cab to beaches and city. Thanks guys!

BED BUGS!During my 2 night stay, I discovered BED BUGS in the bed. This was extremely disturbing and made me feel uneasy about sleeping in the room.When I woke up in the morning, I was covered in bites. This was not only physically uncomfortable, but it was also alarming to realize that I had been bitten by bed bugs while I was asleep.In order to prevent the bed bugs from coming home with me, I had to spend time and money laundering all of my clothes and belongings. This was a major inconvenience and added an additional expense to my trip.The physical discomfort of the bites was a constant distraction and made it difficult for me to fully relax and enjoy my time at the hotel.The presence of bed bugs caused me a lot of stress and added an unnecessary level of anxiety to my trip.Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The presence of bed bugs is a serious issue that should not be taken lightly and can ruin a person's stay.

This is a lovely hotel, we had no complaints at all. We stayed overnight on 6 December 2022 and found the hotel fresh, clean and light. My kids had a swim in the pool which they thoroughly enjoyed. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which were both delicious. The room was spacious and spotless. It was quiet and we all slept well in very comfortable beds.To top it off, the staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again and recommend for families as it’s very reasonably priced

Does not compare with the quality in Sydney, Went for Buffet Breakfast, unfortunately the fried mushrooms were so heavily salted, the hash browns irregularly formed as were the pancakes, perhaps re used or seconds. The scrambled egg was not palatable. The poached egg, bacon was fine, tasteless slim sausage.Overall it's lacks lustre, however the staff are lovely.
