The Dickins Woodend

Fantastic accommodation, I'd say some of the best in the town after working locally on and off for the past few years I've stayed nearly everywhere and this is by far the best! And great value for the dollar! Very clean modernised cosy little units with everything you need, tucked just behind the main st making it nice and peaceful while still a short walk to all shops ! Was very impressed.

Natalie from 'The Dickens' was very helpful with our initial booking because we wanted to bring our chihuahua and not many places accommodate pets!Natalie messaged us before our arrival to see if we need the heater on (so thoughtful as it was a bit cool).Every day she checked in to see if we needed anything to be replenished or fresh towel!The Dickins is centrally located right in the heart of picturesque Woodend with many unique little cafes and shops on the high street around the corner! Booked 3 rooms to stay overnight while attending a wedding in the area. Rooms were well presented and clean, however we had a big issue checking in. There is no reception (not indicated on the website). Two out of the three couples received emails prior to checking in saying their keys were in their doors. The third room (our room) did not receive this or check in details – only confirmation that full payment had been processed.Upon arriving at 2pm, we called and messaged Lynette saying there was no key in the door and we are unable to get in. By the time Lynette responded saying that the key was in the door, we had left for the wedding. However, it was unclear in her brief message whether she had put the key in the door or whether she was challenging our claim that it was there. We continued to message and call throughout the wedding seeking clarification, to no answer or response. Arriving back at The Dickens after midnight, there was still no key in the door.We called and messaged Lynette upwards of 20 times to again, no responses. Eventually at 1am, we inspected the rear of the building, reached into the window, popped open the fly screen, wound the window open and one of us climbed inside (great security). At that moment past 1am, Lynette finally appeared with the key with no apologies, claiming someone was playing “funny buggers” with the key (how reassuring). She also questioned why we didn’t choose to sleep in the bed with another couple in the neighboring room (so 4 people in a double bed), despite us having paid for our own.When we told her we had to climb through the window she said that its not the first time its happened, as if to imply it’s a regular occurrence and therefore acceptable. She also said that she is a “dinosaur” who doesn’t check her phone, despite running this business and being the only phone number listed on the website or email correspondence. Most bizarrely, it turns out that Lynnette was on site the entire time in the rear unit which faces the other rooms. Hard to consider she wouldn’t have firstly checked if the key was there, seen/heard the commotion at 2pm (check in time) or between 12am and 1am. There was also unused key locks outside of every room which would be the more secure check in option rather than putting keys in doors. I certainly wouldn’t recommend staying here as a result of our experience.

We had the cottage. Really well appointed, very clean, great decor, very comfortable. Location is excellent, we walked everywhere. Good provisions for our use. Will book again.

Beautiful accommodation. It's brand new so I feel a couple of things were left unfinished in the room we had but given that it was the busy Australia day weekend with a concert nearby, I'm glad we had the space and the room was still comfortable and usable. Heaps of features packed into the room. Perfectly located to walk into town and take a drive to surrounding areas. Easy and pleasant communication and booking. Would definitely stay there again
