Sand Banks Reserve

It was Autumns farewell period, most of the leaves were gold, some copper a few with a tint of green. Some trees were bare, looked like standing brooms.Some of seemed to be centuries young. The river was beautiful.

I haven't been here since I was a kid....Hasnt changed. Still wouldn't swim in the water. Bigger pot holes.My dad used to bag the sand for the bird Avery's.. shhhhh

Sandbanks Reserve is a stunning piece of pure bliss right on the edge of the ever expanding city or Traralgon the largest city east of the suburbs of Melbourne .There is a lot of fascinating history associated with the reserve if you care to do some history research .The reserve hosts some stunning trees that are heritage listed many over 100 years of age one such english elm could possibly be one of the largest still alive in the world .Sadly over the last 20 years since the amalgamation of the city of traralgon onto the latrobe city the reserve has been neglected it had become a dumping ground for household rubbish ,,motor bike riding and hoon driving by bush pigs driving 4 wheel drive vehicles modified with huge wheels who illegally use the grass to do hoon driving and tear up the road along with the damage caused by motor bike riders who use the reserve as a motorbike track camping and over night stays are prohibited which signs at the entrance to the reserve states .The reserve is at last been given some well over due attention by latrobe city the reserve will be transferred into a beautiful peaceful tranquil reserve over the next few years .making this stunning reserve a place to sit and relax under the beautiful old native and european treesPlease follow reserve rules please take your rubbish with you motor bike riding is prohibited along with over night stays either camping or motor homes please respect the laws of this reserve and enjoy the tranquil setting on the banks of the latrobe river

Mozzie heaven. Recent works definitely helping to improve area. Terrible road and poorly maintained. Hopefully it reclaims it's former glory

Great spot to visit for a casual walk, or lunch, or a play with your dog.
