Lower Homebush Primary School
Historical Building and all that remains of a long gone gold rush town. Built as Primary School No 2258 by Joseph Jarvis in 1886 for 200 pupils it is the only one of this standard plan and size to have survived without major alterations and additions. The drawings were executed by S E Bindley and endorsed by H R Bastow of the Public Works Department. But by 1903 the average attendance at the Lower Homebush school was only forty. Gold yields had dropped and mining companies had ceased operating. Lower Homebush School had small enrolments from the 1930s, and by 1967 it too had closed.
