Dr Sound - Melbourne Speaker Repairs

Andrew has repaired a number of my audio items over the years. I have been delighted with his professionalism and expertise. In particular, I was impressed with his rescue of an expensive valve amplifier that was repeatedly failing due to overheating caused by poor original design. Recommended.

Electronics engineer here so I have a fair idea what I'm talking about: Andrew is an expert in repairing audio equipment and a very nice person. He doesn't over-promise (doesn't really talk much, for that matter), doesn't rip you off, doesn't invent non-existent problems with your equipment. Just looks at the fault and repairs it, following your approval, if it is repairable and/or is worth repairing. Very reliable and trustable person. Fully recommend him.

Edit 16-01-2023: Andrew, I bought the driver in for a repair due to a burned/damaged coil. The coil was rubbing as I demonstrated to you on the day. I've worked in A/V for over 25 years, I know a damaged coil when I hear one. It's clear you were focused on your previous repair (cone, which was fine) and not listening to a word I was saying. Also, who just ghosts a client and doesn't respond to calls/email? Absolutely shocking business practices and terrible customer support. If I could give 0 stars I would.Friendly and knowledgeable guy, but completely unreliable, and doesn't complete jobs. Unfortunately my experience with Dr Sound wasn’t a very positive one. I dropped off my speaker with him, was told he’d call me about a week later to let me know what repairs were required, and I didn’t hear back from him for 7 months. I tried calling him probably 50 times within that time (no answer) as well as sending numerous emails and didn’t hear back from him at all. I was actually worried that maybe he had passed away or something. 7 months after I dropped my speaker off, he finally called me and said the speaker wasn’t worth fixing. I picked it up that day, took it somewhere else and had it fixed and returned to me in 4 days, for $100. Andrew seems like a nice guy, but in terms of running a business, not great.*Hi Andrew, the job number was #2348You told me you couldn’t work due to COVID lock downs and then you said you had a sore tooth. Everything I said in my review is 100% the truth.

I have had Dr Sound repair a set of Acoustic Research 94 speakers and also a Yamaha R-300 stereo receiver. He did a fantastic job with both items, highly recommend. He does take a little while to complete but I'd prefer the job done properly the first time rather than it being rushed.

Andrew has been a great help in restoring my 26 year old Cerwin Vega speakers that needed their foam lining replaced. The speakers are as good as new and sound awesome. Given the price of what they are worth and not being able to use them for nearly two years, finding Andrew and getting them repaired at a very affordable price was well worth the wait. Andrew has been a revalation to me and I will highly recommend him and his advice.

Andrew refoamed and serviced a pair of Onkyo Scepter vintage speakers. These speakers are incredibly rare and expensive. Spare parts no longer available. He did an amazing job and they look and sound great. I would recommend Andrew for servicing and repairing vintage speakers.

Did not reply to phone calls or emails.Update: it was definitely worth persevering... Once initial contact was made, communication was straightforward. Andrew took great care of my speakers for a good price and faster than promised. They sound and look as new.
