This was a really interesting site to visit. It is well signed with plenty of information about the history of the POW camp and the role that Cowra played in WWII.

Beautiful location, the history of the area has been well preserved and there is lots of information if you have the time.If no other reason it is a quiet and beautiful place to relax with a cuppa.Very green at the moment and the canola fields in the distance are a touch of colour.

This site holds much sorrow and it is humbling standing and looking across the now vacant paddocks which still have sufficient remains to picture how so many prisoners lived. It is a tribute to the people of Cowra how they have turned the site of so much loss and sadness into a symbol of peace and unity.

The 'Cowra POW Campsite' will really let you take in the beauty of the aesthetically pleasing undulating hill's in the area, but, it will also let you take in the evocative views of what went on in the area during the 2nd World War. The history of how the POW lived there and the 'mass breakout' can leave you with a very eerie feeling. I've been there twice now, and it really still does send shivers up my spine.

This is a big site! Take your time to read the informative panels that treat the violent events that took place here with sensitivity. Of the camp itself, only foundations of some buildings remain but the path and panels allow for the imagination to reconstruct the events of the Cowra Breakout - the only battle in WW2 fought on the Australian mainland.

This is the location of the former World War II prisoner of war camp in Cowra. There is no admission for this location. There’s off road car parking at this location, a toilet and a water bubbler. The history of the prisoner of war camp is written on story boards inside a shaded viewing area. For those who want to explore the former POW area, there’s a history walk route that starts here. Located not far from this location is the Japanese POW cemetery - this is located inside the Cowra cemetery - free admission. The Japanese garden is also worth a visit - it’s located near the Cowra lookout - there’s an admission for the gardens.
