I completed the Novel Writing Masterclass with Black Cockie Press and would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about writing a novel. I loved that the course was designed for adults - no assignments or arbitrary deadlines, just targeted, practical pieces of advice to really strengthen your writing and motivation to help you push your novel along, and a fantastic mentoring session where a real editor/publisher reads part of your novel and gives advice on how to improve it. My novel has been hugely strengthened by the advice I've received.

I just completed Black Cockie Press' Novel Writing Masterclass and I would unquestionably recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to write their first novel. Written with entertaining wit, it was a high-quality weekly online course that combined an explanation of Natalie's own approach with valuable theory lessons. The hands-on information in this course is what I feel differentiates it from other courses I have taken and books I have read. I benefitted most from the sections on character development, pacing, thinking in words, avoiding writing in 'movie time' and drafting/editing. Natalie was also able to provide thorough information about the kind of writing that will sell in Australia. Although the course content was outstanding, the mentoring session was my favourite part. Natalie was impressively knowledgeable and she was able to provide clear direction about why I was flailing. She was able to foster inspiration and enthusiasm for my story that I hadn't felt prior to the mentoring session. I definitely recommend this course and I look forward to completing additional mentoring sessions with Natalie in the future.
