YHA Mission Beach - Scottys

Really nice hostel with swimming pool. Accommodates both traveller's and farmworkers. Cabins are nice and clean, host is really friendly and helpful. Would stay again!

Stayed here for two months while doing farm work. The hostel itself is a nice hostel with good facilities however it’s a shame that the manager Andrew is possibly the rudest person I’ve ever met in my life. The way he treats guests is awful, I’ve seen people approach the reception and the first thing he will say to them is ‘what’s your nationality’. His general attitude is terrible and at times is threatening. If he isn’t bad enough towards normal guests the way he treats the farm workers who also pay to live here is even worse. He’s cursed at me on more than one occasion, he’s pointed in people’s faces and is constantly on a power trip because he knows that people cannot stand up for themselves as he will tell them to leave resulting in them loosing their job. His behaviour is completely inappropriate and many guests that past through during my time there picked up on that. I can’t belive this man works in hospitality and I can only imagine how much business he looses for YHA.

It's a nice little hostel to stay at, with basic bed rooms that can get a bit cold in the night. The kitchen is basic but has everything you would expect from a hostel. I stayed here for a couple of nights while I was touring the local spots and would be happy to do so again.

We only stayed 1 night but would be back for sure ! Andrew was very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended if you’re planning to visit Mission beach.

Overall an ok hostel but was far away from any restaurants, bars, shops (1hr walk) so car highly recommend if staying.No towels in our room = asked twice never received, had to use our own for 3 nights, not ideal.Also we was embarrassed by the staff - had a 6 hour wait between check out and check in to our next stay so thought it would be ok to sit and wait in the communal area for a couple hours to kill time (is this not what you would do if you had couple hours wait before you could head to airport for a flight??) But this was not ok with staff and was made to leave. Left a sour taste on what was a good stay until then.

I booked a twin private room for two nights. When we arrived the manager of the hostel said that he doesn't have any room with two single beds, just a private room with a double bed and the private room with a bunk bed. My male friend and myself didn't want to share double bed, and we didn't really want to sleep on the bunk bed, as we knew this kind of beds are very noisy.Room was soooo smelly, had two windows but you couldn't open it, so we had to use the mobile AC, wich was extremely noisyAnother HUGE problem, was that the manager asked one of our ID card or passport for holding until we checking out!This is absolutely unlawful, illegal, and unacceptable!!!!!!!!!If you asked to pay $$ for deposit or holding some money on your credit card that's fine and understandable!!!So guys!!!! Be very careful with this, and try to find another backpackersSTAY AWAY from this place

So i just spend 3 months in scottys due to farmwork and i had an amazing time over there but only because of the people i stayed with. To be honest the hostel nice, the kitchen and the rooms are good. BUT the hostel manager is an absolute nightmare... (I am not talking about the young receptionist, he's doing a great job!!) The hostel manager is very moody, gets angry without any reason and shouting at people without any reason. He is the reason why i only give this hostel one star. Never experienced something like that. The staff,mostly backpackers like me, is super friendly but he made me feel uncomfortable most of the time. I was never disrespectful or rude to him but he was speaking to us like we we were idiots...

For farmwork: stay away, owner works with subcontractors who rip you off. When I called subcontractor about the payment for my labor the manager later treatened me over the phone.For tourism: there are more comfortable and cozy Hostels out there that are specialized in tourism instead of stealing labor of farmworkersAn outrage that this Hostel is a member of YHA.

Hostel itself is nice and has some good features such as a large TV, ping pong table, pool and good sized kitchen. Your near the beach and Woolworths but apart from that there isn’t much else to do in walking distance.I was very disappointed by the lack of important information that is provided by the hostel manager before arriving.You won’t be employed unless you have a drivers licence and if you are female you are less likely to find work, it’s possible but may take weeks or longer.Hopefully this review will help future backpackers looking for work.
