Studio Trio

Lauren and her husband Steven are professionals and run a very well presented design business in Northbridge.However I had an unfortunate and unsatisfactory experience with their business.About 2 years ago I sought a design to renovate my 2 bedroom apartment which is over 40 years old. My budget was about 15% of the value of the home. The brief did not involve knocking down any walls or movement of services. As part of this process we agreed to add the renovation of our kitchen to the works.Through six months of meetings Lauren came up with a lot of colourful and interesting ideas and a renovation design we would have been happy with. This part of the experience was very positive.However the major disappointment came with the final design and quote for the works. The short summary is that the design they recommended was double the budget, i.e. about 30% of the current value of my apartment! The quote for the joinery work alone was more than our original budget! Admittedly there was the addition of the kitchen renovation. But even generously accounting for this, the quote was still more than $100,000 above what we had agreed at the beginning of the process.At no point beforehand did Lauren or Steven indicate the looming budget blowout. This was very upsetting as I am sure they would have known the issues as experienced professionals. When Lauren met with my wife and me to discuss the quote, she admitted to being embarrassed about the situation and apologised, which was nice of her but not helpful practically.But even more disappointingly, when we asked for a revised design to meet our budget they did not make a serious effort to do it. They basically just removed many of the design elements. For example, instead of simplifying a complex banquette joinery design, they just deleted it. As a result, the design to fit our budget was uninspiring and was missing many of the elements which were in the original design brief.We did not engage Studio Trio to do our renovation.

Studio Trio were amazing to work with. We enjoyed every step of the way! They didn't bulldoze us down with our own ideas, but worked along side us. Amazing team, and would recommend them to anyone that is thinking of doing renovations or a new house build.
