Bought some wallaby meat this week at a Coles supermart in Melbourne. It was packed well & fresh, and made for a good dinner with couscous, sauerkraut, and broccoli...

Not only are their meats great, the fur products they list on their website are good quality. I personally bought the possum and wallaby, really amazing stuff at such a reasonable price. Highly recommend if you're interested.

Pan fried Wallaby fillets (retail at Woolworths) with salt & pepper are fan-bloody-tastic. If you want to reduce the environmental impact of eating meat then local Wallaby meat is a great option. Thumbs-up Lenah.

Here are some facts on the health risks:Kangaroos are wild animals, shot in remote locations during the night, making contamination of kangaroo meat unavoidable.Kangaroo carcasses and minced meat from South Australian meat processing plants were tested in 2002 and 2004. E. coli was found in 70%. In minced kangaroo meat, Salmonella was detected in 18% of samples.Humans can catch Toxoplasma gondii by touching or eating raw or undercooked kangaroo meat. Toxoplasma gondii can cause serious illness, brain damage and death.Kangaroo meat contains high levels of L-carnitine, which causes the build-up of plaque in arteries responsible for heart attacks, strokes, and vascular disease.Pets can also become sick from the bacteria and pathogens found in kangaroo meat.Raw kangaroo pet mince is preserved with toxic sulphites. These sulphites cause Thiamine Deficiency in pets, which can be fatal.Sources: Microbial profiles of carcasses and minced meat from kangaroos processed in South Australia (Holds et al, 2007)Toxoplasmosis (Better Health Channel)Kangaroo meat not as healthy as you think (The Age)The Raw Truth on Raw Dog Food Diets (Australian Dog Lover)

High quality native Australian meats used both at home and at highly esteemed restaurant Stillwater in Launceston, Tasmania. Always a pleasure to deal with and such a good product. If you know, you know.

I bought some of the diced wallaby from my local Coles. I wasn't sure how to cook it, so I contacted Lenah and they were very responsive about recipe ideas. I ended up making a slow cooked casserole with blackberries, red onion and red wine. It was so tender and delicious!I would certainly recommend their products to anyone who is interested in sustainable Australian meats.
