Rose Park Dojo - Golden Knights Martial Arts
I had the privilege of training under Renshi Stephen Webb until I had to sadly leave due to medical reasons but I still fondly remember the experiences and friends made through the Golden Knights Rose Park Dojo.I was dragged along by a University Friend who urged me to try and I thought why not, it was one of the best decisions I have made. Renshi Stephen was very accommodating and took well to my then brash young male attitude and quite quickly became a good friend and mentor. There is always an excitement about learning something new and at Rose Park, twice a week, there was always something new. Be it a stretch, a fitness activity, a take down technique, kick boxing sparring drills or similar, all of these things came together to build a foundation to make you fit of body and mind not to mention leaving you wanting that next training session to come sooner! There was always a reassuring push out of the comfort zone from Renshi Stephen to try new things, which from a Karate aspect, is important to become a better practitioner but also an important life skill, one of many that I learnt while being a student at Rose Park. You can find many things at a Martial Arts Dojo such as: fitness, self-defence, confidence, balance, weaponry, etc through the drills, through the Katas[forms] (as demonstrated by Renshi's Saifa) and by practicing and learning new techniques in a safe and relaxed manner, which throughout my Martial Arts journey, I can easily say I did not readily find elsewhere. All these things take time and persistence, exemplified by the 4th Dan Grading presented by Renshi Stephen. The saying goes “A Black Belt is a White Belt that didn’t give up”, behind all the mysticism and movie magic there’s definitely something of substance to be had by learning a Martial Art but you’ll need to experience it first hand, a video only goes so far.At Rose Park, everyone was welcomed through the doors and taught the customs (while seeming silly, put you in a state of mind ready for training), if you felt uncomfortable you simply had to say so and could spectate without feeling excluded or ridicule. It is with this that I am sure that you will be gladly welcomed through the Dojo doors just as I was a few years ago to the start of your Martial Arts Journey and I know you’ll enjoy it just as much as I did.
