If you love history then you cannot miss this place. Such a beautiful place with rich historic values. You need to buy ticket of $47 per head then start off with some 6 minutes video from the gallery. Take a cruise and enjoy the view of the island for good 10-15 minutes. Take long walks discovering nook and corners of this historic place. Its good for pictures. There is the availability of tour guides if you pay extra bucks. Got to learn a lot with lots of fun.

If you’re in or around Hobart you definitely need to visit the Port Arthur historic site. There is so much to see at the site and the area is so scenic and beautiful. Tasmania really is a different beauty to the rest of mainland Australia. A lot of the buildings have been restored and others not but it really adds to the experience. Port Arthur site is definitely from a bygone area and it’s actually amazing this practice of sending criminals to a different country existed! Crazy.

Spent a day here after completing the Three Capes Track as the hike ticket includes two years entry to the site. The staff across the site are amazing. Especially how you are looked after at the check-in to the Three Capes, we were able to leave bags and explore the site which helped immensely. So friendly and accommodating, so thank you to you all!Loved learning the Port Arthur history, there are a myriad of information boards to read around the site so very easy to learn about each building and personal stories about the convicts. Staff are scattered around the site too so we had a couple of impromptu personal talks which were very informative. The cafe and shop are little gems as well and we were well fed in between breaks. It's easy to spend a whole day here as we did, so make time for this place.

It was a beautiful presented, with an abundance of history.Buildings are well preserved. We unfortunately didn't get the audio, we missed it down stairs. So we may have missed out on lots of information. We still enjoyed the massive grounds and stories within the buildings. We didn't go on the boat trip either. Pretty location with heaps of history.

I wanted to visit this place because it has so much history and is an icon of Tasmania. I bought my ticket in advance and the drive to get there was amazing. I drove 1 hour 30 minutes from Hobart and had free parking. At the entrance, I showed my ticket and along came the ticket for the cruise across the bay. We went first to a room where we took a card and could find the characters on the wall. I loved the idea and it made it very dynamic. My 2 year old son loved it. We watched the video with some history and important information and went on our cruise. The tour was great and full of details of how it used to be. As soon as it was over we went to see the ruins and many cool places. Be sure to read the history beforehand or take a guide with you to understand what each place is all about. We really liked that it had a lot of ramps and it was easy to take our baby pram.Despite being a very sad place with many shocking events, it is part of Australia and its history. It was worth visiting.

Our second time here, and it's just as captivating. We purchased a 'Ticket of Leave'.It is a 2 year ticket which includes entry to Cascade female factory. It was $20 extra and is excellent value. We may now enter both facilities as often as we like while we are here. The site is kept in outstanding condition. Historic sites need to be kept in the condition they are found and should not be modified beyond their original structure. The main concern is the safety of the site for those entering. This has been performed perfectly and has kept the site close to the original.Tickets include a 20-minute harbour cruise, which is both delightful and informative. There are cafes and a restaurant on-site. Toilets are in several places. Parking is abundant. There are many chairs and tables throughout the site.Port Arthur is 100 acres, and the single ticket is valid for 2 days. If staying close by, I would be going both days to split up the walking.

Amazing place, I loved it! It has a sad and brutal history, but as it is now, it's a very nice location and it was pleasant spending time there. It has a very well set out museum, cafe, and gift shop. Knowledgeable staff, and a very interesting welcome video and a clever map that's easy to read and put in your pocket. The location was very well manicured and looked after. The information via signs and plaques is well set out and easy to read. I greatly enjoyed walking about, reading, and looking at all Port Arthur had to offer - we spent 5 hours strolling, and I was engaged and interested the whole time. Some parts are a little hilly, but accessibility was decent, and I didn't struggle to climb any stairs or hills despite current health issues.Highly recommend a visit!
