It takes determination and a serious roadtrip to find this stunning installation of multiple eerie metal humanoid figurines scattered with deliberation across a huge salt bed lake in the middle of nowhere. But that's half the fun of this experience and probably relevant to what the artist is trying to invoke. You'll be hard-pressed not to feel both a spine tingling sense of the triumph of the human artistic impulse and humbled by the fabulous natural setting. The palette of colours is stunning - impossibly blue sky, rocks and earth in every shade between sandstone and ochre, shimmering distant mirages and the vast bleached salt pan of Lake Ballard make an unsettling contrast to the lonely diminished figures spread out over 10k or more of lake bed. You do need to pick your day with care - other reviewers have accurately commented on the heat, flies etc. and don't think of leaving Kalgoorlie without a full tank of gas. But on a beautiful spring day with a high of 25 C, I'd put this trip high on your bucket list of thrilling and thought provoking adventure.

A magical and mystical place - made so by the sculptures and environment. It is a PITY to see the beauty if the place destroyed by people using rocks to write their names. Graffiti.

I think it is worth seeing the sculptures - not sure of all pieces but certainly some of them - and climbing the hill for an up-high perspective. It is a long drive in - about 2.5 hours from Kalgoorlie - consider staying here (self-sufficient camping) or in Menzies. It would be amazing in different lights - eg. sunrise or sunset. Expect annoying flies!

Nice camping but the art work is rather repetitive. Seeing all 51 pieces seemed rather pointless.

Stunning place to either visit for the day or stay overnight in your fully self contained caravan or similar. ( dump point available).Prepare for some long walks if your going to visit all the randomly placed sculptures!

A great place to visit and free camp for a couple of nights or base yourself in Menzies.

Visited Lake Ballard in late April. This is important because it wasnt peak summer heat and the temp was mild. Also we could walk around on firm ground without sinking into mud. Absolutely awesome experience. Unforgettable. Go see it. A bit of a trip to get there….2hrs drive north west out of Kalgoorlie but totally worth it.
