Mother and Child
In 1975 the then Caulfield City Council commissioned Melbourne artist Phillip Cannizzo to create statues for Caulfield Park and they were to represent different aspects of community life. They were completed in 1980 and located on the corner of Balaclava and Hawthorn Roads.The group of bronze statues includes the 'Paper Boy,' 'Mother and Child' and the 'Climbing Boys'. The 'Paper Boy,' is dedicated to a well-known and loved paper boy who was struck and killed by a passing vehicle at this intersection. The statue of the 'Mother and Child' perhaps represents a mother and child resting after shopping.
