The Green Gully track
Challenging but rewarding hike. The challenges are days 1 and 4 but the reward is day 3. Magnificent gorge along a pristine creek that was as clear as any I've seen in the US Rockies.

Completed over Easter 2023 as a family (2 adults and two kids aged 11 and 9). Amazing experience to spend 4 days with no phone and to not see another human. Highlight was the remote but very comfortable and well equipped huts. The walking itself is not particularly spectacular but that’s really not the point of this walk. It’s all about the huts and the isolation. We had some rain Day 1 and severe thunder, lightning and very heavy rain on Day 2 which was pretty scary high on the ridge. Fortunately good weather for days 3 and 4.NPWS do not recommended for under 12s but very doable if kids are fit and have done some training. Also note that if doing with small kids the adults do need to carry heavier packs to accommodate but it’s very manageable as no need to carry cooking equipment or tents.Day one is 17km, but the easiest and fastest (~5.5hours) as all on firetrail and more down than up. Days 2, 3 and 4 all similar difficulty but for different reasons. Day 2 is 15km with a steady uphill to start and a very steep downhill for the last 2 hours which is slippery and challenging (trekking poles help a lot). Day 3 up Green Gully Creek is the longest day by time (~8 hours) although it's the shortest by distance at only 13.5km and most fun. Includes ~5km of off trail / in creek walking. Day 4 is 17.5km all on firetrail and starts with a 4km steep uphill which makes for a challenging (but bit boring) day. Arriving at Cedar Creek Lodge to finish is amazing!
