About 3 minutes away from city of port augusta, beautiful scenery. Visited on September, lake was filled with water. Could see the whole range of the red cliff. Mangrove eco system can be seen. Plenty of parking available

Matthew Flinders Red Cliff Lookout
Simple lookout where early explorer Matthews Flinders once stood, at the very top of Spencer Gulf, looking over to the Flinders Ranges. Apparently he was unimpressed, and is credited with saying ....there is no need for any person to cone here again." How wrong could he be!!The Lookout is adjacent to the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden at North Augusta. The collection of arid-loving plants and their presentation is very good

Matthew Flinders Red Cliff Lookout
Good parking is the start, followed by good views up and down the river. Some of the many walks pass through here. Take care as there are some reasonable steep drop off's on the track and at the viewing area. Mountains in the distance are interesting.

Went late in the afternoon to catch the sunset and caught a couple of trains going by in the distance. Was the only one there so was quite peaceful (maybe a little dangerous?)Very easy hike just wear good footwear as it's a bit sandy.

Beautiful botanic gardens. The red cliff walking trail has great views across the water and the bright red cliffs.
