I am a complete beginner to violin and have a cheap student violin. I dropped in to Hunter Valley Violins for some advice and spoke to David who gave me all the time in the world and was very encouraging. When I upgrade my instrument I will certainly be coming back here, David is clearly an expert in his field and offers wonderful customer service.

Fantastic service from passionate people in their industry. My daughter wanted to simply window shop and look through the window at David's beautiful violins. She has been learning the violin since the age of five using loan violins from her teacher. Entering David's luthier palace was like walking into a lolly shop for my daughter, her eye's were like saucers capturing every item of beauty hanging before her. Unbeknown to her, this would be an experience that she will remember for the rest of her life. After testing a number of violins and listening to much important advice, David suggested that my daughter should spend some time in the studio next door with the two instruments she felt comfortable with. To listen to them sing their beautiful sound in her tender hands, brought tears to my eyes. My daughter was in her element, playing an instrument that she loves and I love hearing. At no point did she know that she would be purchasing her first full size violin. David and his partner could hear a special sound, a sound that masters can hear when apprentices are learning and have a talent. Their expert advice allowed my daughter to live a dream and own a quality violin that she will cherish for the rest of her life.

Musicians and their instruments are a sacred relationship, David completely respects this dynamic. He is a trustworthy and giving person, as parents of a cellist, visiting his store is truly a mecca of choice. We fully appreciate that he is a cellist himself and understands how to get more bang for your buck. He is worth travelling to, particularly given the range of instruments to experience. The return for investment with time and the quality is truly valuable and unforgettable. We are looking forward to his masterclass idea - another chapter worth looking forward to!

Bought a viola there today. David is personable and brings great professional knowledge. He showed me a range of instruments in stock and gave me plenty of time to play the 3 of interest with no pressure to buy. All good quality for what I want ranging from $600 - $1500 professionally set up with case and bow - very competitive with what's on offer online. When selecting an instrument to buy it's important to try several for comparison and to choose the best for your skill level and budget. Even instruments from the same maker and model can differ in sound; and going to Hunter Valley Violins gives you professional support and any future help if needed. We're lucky to have such a shop in the Hunter.
