Chillagoe Cockatoo Hotel Motel

We stopped in for dinner the place looked dirty, like an old age smokers bar everything was yellow and smelled musty. The lady running the place wasn't friendly at all, it felt like we were an inconvenience just being there, we ordered some drinks and even that seemed like too much effort to her. Definitely didn't want to eat there after the. Reef encounter so went to the Post Office Hotel which was amazing.

Great place to stay Rob's tour of town was great for the short time we had there and a great cook as well. All staff were very friendly as well

Popped in on Sunday for a quick drink and went back on Monday for dinner. Meals were tasty and good value. Beer garden was very relaxing and staff friendly. Chef went out of his way to cook on off menu vegetarian dish for the table next to ours, that is great service.

Came here for dinner and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and a very large and filling portion. The staff were all extremely friendly and we ended up staying most of the night talking! Definitely a highlight of our trip to chillagoe!

Old hag working the bar was extremely rude to a half-dozen group of patrons who were highly respectful themselves. Needlessly rushed people while they were ordering, which only created pressure and confusion. Her exact words were ‘hurry up I don’t have time for this’ while a customer was finalising his choices which caused shock and only slowed the process. She made remarks about the legality of serving food and drinks over the bar to my partner (who is of age). We recommend she refresh herself on food and liquor legislation as there was a child sitting at the bar enjoying a coke with an adult guardian which the ‘security camera footage will show’. If the hosts would like to debate this in the replies, we would like to be informed of which other point of sale we could have ordered food and (non-alcoholic) beverages from and why this was said to us and then served what we wanted anyway. ;) Unfortunately on this day there was no choice in where we could eat as the only other venue serving food was closed. Will be bringing preprepared food to eat outside the cave tours next time.

The owners were more than welcoming. Arrived just before the kitchen was closing and were more than happy to provide lunch.The burgers were amazing. The best home cooked burgers we have eaten for a long time. Definitely recommend travellers to stop!!

Nice pub to have a couple of beers, did not stay in the rooms so can't comment on the accomodation.

On the long weekend in May I took my kids up to Chillagoe to see the caves . We decided to go to the pub for tea and chose the Cockatoo Hotel. From the moment we walked up to the bar we received nothing but excellent service! Staff were friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying our time there! Meals were awesome...compliments to the chef! Bar service was exceptional :)You won't regret a visit to the Cockatoo!!!
