JG Bathrooms

NOT HAPPY JAN!Hopefully this review will act as a cautionary tale for anyone considering using JG Bathrooms as our experience has been disastrous. Make sure you read to the end for my update.Our project involved 2 new bathrooms, updating the deck, installing some new doors and converting an existing ensuite and study into a bedroom.Main bathroom (8.5m2) total cost: >$70k ($43k labour)Ensuite (4m2) total cost: >$50k ($34k labour)Deck update: $23k (original estimate was $6k and the scope was only varied to add in a few extra metres of pre-fabricated balustrade)New bedroom: $13kProject was supposed to take 10 weeks but it has now been 8 months and Jan (the owner of JG) will not respond to emails asking for rectification of defects (MAJOR DEFECTS…read on).I will raise the most serious issues first. The waterproofing in both of our bathrooms was majorly defective. When Jan (who is a tiler and waterproofer by trade) was informed of this and visited the site he insisted it was all perfect and that we would need to get an independent inspection report in order for him to fix it and he would pay for the reports if any defects were found. We obtained the report. A total of 28 defects were found, 7 of them major defects. The company that conducted the inspection said it was the worst case they had ever seen. We were told that the waterproofing was fixed to the extent that it could be but Jan refused to pay for the reports.There are major defects with the marble mosaic floor tiles in both bathrooms. WATER POOLS IN SEVERAL AREAS BECAUSE THE FLOORS DO NOT SLOPE DOWN TOWARDS THE DRAINS. Large areas of tiles are discoloured because there is water pooling on top and underneath which will not dry out despite not using the bathroom for several months. There are several hairline cracks in the floors and no silicone was used around the borders of the showers until after the damage was already done.Virtually nothing functions or looks as it should.Jan has had numerous meltdowns at our property. During one of these episodes he told me he could not cope with me constantly calling him on his phone. The reality was that I had not called him once, ever. On another occasion I heard him referring to me as “the fatso” to one of his staff.During the quoting stage, we asked for various details to be included in the written proposal. Jan insisted we did not need that level of detail in the quote as they would honour everything that had been discussed. We were of course hit with significant extra costs for anything which was not explicitly detailed in the written proposal.Once Jan fell very obviously behind in the work and was still demanding weekly payments of $11k it became very clear why he structures payments this way (weekly payments rather than milestone payments after actual chunks of work are completed).We have been constantly harassed for payments which were not due. On many occasions Jan has tried to bill us for work which was either already paid for or simply never owed. He seems to pull new invoices out of the air, trying his luck sending them to us in the hope that we will pay them blindly.I could go on but there is a word limit to these reviews. In summary, dealing with JG, especially Jan, has been a total nightmare.EDIT in response to JG’s bogus response to my review: We did not make changes after work had commenced, my husband did not “sign off” on any of the work and we did not have any issues between us and the tradies. These are total fabrications.We have now had our first hearing with NCAT. JG did not bother to show up or send a representative. We have an independent expert witness report (costing over $15k) outlining all the defects with the work and says BOTH BATHROOMS NEED TO BE RIPPED OUT AND STARTED FROM SCRATCH. Other defects with the doors and deck also need to be rectified.In the meantime, Jan continues to send letters of demand from his lawyers and threatens to take us to court if we do not make final payment. The team from JG bathrooms were professional and the workmanship was exceptional. I am delighted with the finished product - new bathroom and laundry - and can honestly say it was a no stress experience. I would highly recommend JG bathrooms. Very happy customer.

JG Bathrooms completely remodelled our bathroom providing a totally satisfactory high quality final product. All of the various tradesmen demonstrated a high level of workmanship and the project was well managed and co-ordinated. The project was completed one week ahead of schedule The Project Manager provided ongoing communication and advise. Care was taken to keep the work site and adjoining rooms clean and tidy.We are happy to recommend JG Bathrooms to anyone contemplating using their services.

Jan and his team undertook the renovation of our 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom townhouse including new kitchen, laundry, staircase with storage below and engineered timber flooring downstairs and we are very happy with the finished product.The renovation under the guidance of Jaco was performed in a professional manner and the communication was good during the process. Any small changes were accommodated and agreed upon without hassle. Jan and his team were outstanding! Michelle was great to work with on the design and the rest of the crew were fantastic too. Jan was extremely generous and threw in our underfloor heating complimentary and was very helpful and responsive with any questions we had throughout the process.The end result was flawless and done so efficiently, I would thoroughly recommend JG Bathrooms for future work on anyone's property!

Jan and his team completed a Master Bathroom and Bedroom renovation at our home 3 years ago. We were extremely satisfied with the high standards and the diligence of their work.Last week however, we noticed that water has somehow leaked under one of the tiles in the shower, from a crack along the strip drain.When I enquired with Jan, how this could be rectified, he sent over a staff member the very next day, who fixed the issue very professionally and at no cost.I can highly recommend JG Tiling & Building for any renovation work and would not hesitate to use them again ourselves.

I am so delighted with the end result of this outstanding bathroom.Jan and his team were time efficient, well organised & methodical in all aspects from underfloor heating, waterproofing, plumbing to the tiling itself. Gave sound advice regarding design of the bathroom. I would highly recommend this Company.

This team did a fantastic job with our full kitchen and bathroom renovation. They are responsive and pleasant to work with, and genuinely care about the quality of the final product. They completed all works within the time frame, and were easy to contact throughout. With a good flair for design as well, the final product is beautiful and we couldn’t be happier. JG Tiling carried out my bathroom renovation as well as some work in the living room. The quality of their tiling and plumbing work was excellent. But what I found most impressive, and very helpful, was their patience and flexibility. When external circumstances caused repeated delays they were very accommodating. I am most grateful for this. In any job hiccups occasionally occur. When this happened JG remedied the problem without hesitation. Lastly, I found them very easy to deal with and they returned calls and answered texts quickly.It was a pleasure having them do my job.
