I come here often and they're hands down the best viet rolls in st george area. The roasted pork roll is the best here. The bread is always crispy, the meat is fresh and their vinegar pickled chilli is a superb addition. The jam ball donuts go off too..Do not go to the one on the corner next to the station, it doesnt even come close.

Here I am, telling the tale of two Mortdale bakeries. It was the best at times, it was the worst at times, it was the age of English meat pies, it was the age of Parisian croissants. It was the epoch where I broke my unbending commitment to one and it was the epoch where I gave another a chance.Venturing in, I was thrilled to encounter a mouthwatering diversity of sweet and savoury goods. The lady at the helm of the bakery is talkative but moody, especially if you don't have an idea what to get the second you step through the door. One day, she asked what I wanted and I picked out a single pastry while still scanning the display case for another. But when I opened my mouth to order something else, she impatiently knocked on the case demanding the money so I paid without saying another word. I'm not sure what I did to agitate her to an uncomfortable degree. Maybe she knows I'm a regular patron at her lofty competitor or maybe I'm just too indecisive with my food!Nonetheless, I hold no qualms about her baking because I thoroughly enjoyed all that I tried. The fan favourite vegemite and cheese scroll stands out with a godly crown of cheese invigorated by the malty vegemite cushioned within. I would've liked more vegemite but the mighty scroll already earns an Australian citizenship. On the sweet side, the cinnamon roll is a monolith smothered in a creamy spiced icing that couldn’t hide that it was overbaked. A lovely orange jam guides your tongue as you unravel the dense, spiralling layers of dough. The danish also features a fruity apricot jam, yet its sugariness is overstated with a custard filling that dampens the structure of the pastry. The tomato, herb and cheese bread is a lovely amalgamation of organic flavours, from the tartness of the tomato paste to the fragrant oregano flakes. At the end always savour those crunchy shreds of melted cheese on the edges. I can guarantee that this bakery does not skimp out on the named ingredients and sincerely showcases the flavour profiles at its boldest. You'll get exactly briny bacon bits and a tasty spread of cheese on your ham and cheese bread. Both their doughs are pillowy and are comparable to the pull-aparts at Coles. Though the parallels isn't something to be berated for (Coles bakery are the best when it comes to supermarket bread), I think it raises questions about how much of their artisanal characteristics reveals itself through the bread. Now has the challenger mastered the wizardry of a staple croissant? Not quite. The tactile qualities of the croissant are unappealing. It is squashy, wrinkly and feels limp in your hand as if it's been sat on. But the inside tells a different story, a familiar and velvety goodness that perfumes the mouth. You can't judge a book by its cover unless it's a croissant without a proofed and flaky crust!Hence, my careful investigation of this bakery comes to an end and I have made my own peace with both. Nevermind not reading A Tale of Two Cities, it is a far, far better thing that I do to relish in what's done best by this local Vietnamese bakery!

Up early and finishing late, this hardworking bakery has good varieties of freshly baked bread, pastries, rice paper rolls, hit pies,& sausage rolls and pork rolls. Prices are very reasonable and their service is always fast and friendly. Where else do you find half size white loaf for $1.50 these days?

Best pork rolls - they have the option of the soft roll as well which is my personal preference. Have been coming here for almost 10 years quality hasn't changed.

Regular here for more than a decade and have never been disappointed, not even once. Favourites: pork roll, cheese&bacon roll, vegemite scroll and of course the classic staple: caramel slice.
