Southern Cross Roof Plumbing

I employed John and his sons to clad the exterior walls of my house with Lysaght steel sheeting. We agreed that they would do it between other, more urgent jobs. At no time did anyone from the company say that it was beyond their level of expertise. They said they hadn't done that particular profile before but that they would work it out.They initially started with the cladding that had been ordered and paid for on 23rd December 2020. They continued, every once in a while, for the next 8 months without ever completing a single wall. I always paid their invoices on time.I gave up hope in August 2021 that the work would ever be finished and called in 2 other builders for a quote to complete the job. Neither of the builders were able to finish the work as it had been so poorly done that it needed to be removed and done again.The photos below are from August 6, 2012. The seams in the top and bottom cladding sections do not line up. The flashing around the windows is incorrectly cut (ie mitres that don't meet or aren't cut at all). The plastic was left on the sheets as they were installed and is permanently trapped in the ridges. Sheets were cut to size with an angle grinder that burned pits in the Colorbond finish and caused it to rust. They removed the exterior cement sheeting behind the photographed section and did not replace it. Lysaght Enseam must be laid on a rigid substrate. They installed extra noggins instead.If John and his sons had completed the job within the agreed time frame of 6 months I would never have known how bad it was. If they had bothered to read the Lysaght installation brochure they may have done a better job. It was entirely up to John to make these choices.John responded to my advice that I would have the matter dealt with by Fair Trading immediately. Much faster than he had ever responded to any other message I'd sent.He returned my money in full and removed the cladding 2 weeks later. It had taken 8 months to install and was removed in 2 days. I'm left with screw holes, planed down sections and missing paint in my previously pristine external timber cladding. My garage is exposed to the elements with stud work and no cladding. They took the extra noggins too!BEWARE of this company. Don't expect your calls, texts or emails to be answered in anything like a timely manner. Don't expect them to volunteer to make good any damage they do to your property. Do expect them to strew your property with cigarette butts, uneaten food remnants and drink bottles, even if you ask them not to.

We employed Southern Cross metal roofing to replace our roof following damage from a hail storm in November 2021.Josh and his team did a great job. They were extremely efficient workers and handled all aspects of the job for us. We found them to be reliable, friendly and approachable. They even left our house clean and tidy at the end of the job which was a nice change from other tradesmen we have had over the years.
