This place is a real surprise. I hiden dark funky whiskey bar in the heart it Newcastle. It's not cheap but the quality of the cocktails is very high. Great spot for a cocktail before or after dinner.

The first time the music was subdued and atmosphere lovely, 2nd visit the music was obnoxiously loud and totally not relaxing.It’s a bar, not a nightclub.People were loud to combat the loud atmosphere.We thought we’d found our spot to have a nice cocktail or two but it was full of the entitled generation taking selfies.Was classy the first time around, the second time around it was just another nightclub with overly loud musicReal shame,

Perfect atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable staff. We attended a cocktail making master class and made some amazing cocktails and created a unique original concoction that as delicious. At the end of the class we were provided with another cocktail and a smorgasbord of cheese and meats. We will definitely be attending another class as it was hands down a perfect night.

Coal and Cedar! Incredible atmosphere, incredible service, and the most incredible selection of spirits and cocktails on the East Coast of Australia!!! The price of admission to this throwback speak easy is attention to detail, and it is so worth the investment. This is 5 solid stars in the “must experience” scale. Thank you, Ryan, Sean, and Ashley!!!

One of the best cocktail bars in the hood. The cocktails were well balanced and deliciously refreshing.Service crew were friendly and knowledgeable.Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Newcastle.

Killer vibe. Great range of drinks. Awesome staff and the food options are great. 10/10. Be sure to book ahead especially if you've got a few people with you.

Was great to have somewhere to go after hours to keep drinking. Lots of different drinks, no standing, which meant no dancing though, but grateful they were open late. Staff were lovely too!!!

I've had a few great nights at Coal & Cedar, but last night my friend and I went for a particular - and sad - occasion. The bartender, Reuben (hope that's spelled right) was so kind and friendly, and made sure that our evening was as good as it could be. I can't thank him enough for his attitude and warmth.
