Excellent veterinary service with lovely staff. My puppy attended their puppy preschool with Chelsea the fantastic vet nurse and trainer. We saw Dr Matsui for vaccines/checkup who was extremely thorough and helpful. All the staff are lovely. Would highly recommend bringing your pet to this clinic!

I initially loved this vet. But my last visit was an extremely poor experience. The vet I saw at Redlynch (the apparent owner) did not listen or engage with my concerns. He focused on lumps my dog had, which I had tested previously with clear results. He charged me for a biopsy against my wishes and ignored my request for cortisone injections offering lazer therapies while assuming I would not be able to afford them, so held back information.i asked him questions relating to supplements and diet and noticed he wasn't listening and when I stopped talking midway through sentence to see if he was listening, he replied with a closed, there is nothing else I can do"comment and ended the appointment.I called back the clinic to talk about my concerns and the receptionist at balaclava was the least empathetic the least helpful and was not at all concerned about my worries or the health of my dog.I will never ever return to this clinic and will not recommend their business again. I am deeply disappointed."

My recent experience with Balaclava has been nothing but horrible! I took my 5month puppy in after he was bitten by another dog, I understand it was a weekend and they have their own appointments. I called them before taking him in they said they'll fit him in that day. I called multiple time's that day as I don't live in Cairns and had to travel. I decided to go and pick him up at 3pm, the vet talked me out of taking him and that he'll be better staying there the night while he is in an uncomfortable position. They called me later on that day around 6pm with a update that he has broken his top jaw. They've advised me it's his top jaw and that he'll need a specialist to do the surgery and that it's a difficult surgery it could cost up to 10 grand, possible having to fly him down to the Sunshine Coast, Also advised me that their surgeon is on holiday's so they won't be able to do anything, his had to stay there for a second night being over the weekend and I couldn't get a hold of another vet. Long story short, he spent two night's at this vet, that cost me nearly $800 with 1 lot of X-ray and for what!? I took him to another vet, who redone X-ray of his jaw to then advise me that it's his bottom jaw broken (not his top). He spend 4 night's at this new vet, had the surgery they also gave me stuff to take home a 2week booster of antibiotics and that only cost $1200!Balaclava is a rip off, and it just shows it pays to get a second opinion!! I could have been out of pocket over $10,000. I will not be returning! Not happy with them.

Our Great Dane is now 12 and a half years old and this surgery has looked after him his whole life (he even went through puppy school here). On average, we really only visit twice a year - vaccinations and large breed maintenance issues. The advise and care we receive are always fantastic even though we don't always see the same vet. As any extra large dog owner knows, care can be expensive, but I always find their fees reasonable and basic.

Had a check up for one of my little boys today and was told he needs a booster shot in a month by a nice French lady. When I tried to book for the booster in Sept reception said OOH No we won't have a vet for the whole month then told me I need to go to the Redlynch office. Has the world gone crazy, there's other vet's in town but everyone seems to think we are the ones that have to put ourselves out. They just don't want our business.

This business is not only the best clinic in cairns but is surely the best business in Cairns. The receptionist staff bend over backwards to accommodate, the nurse was knowledgeable and compassionate and every vet there is skillful, knowledgeable and cares far more about their patients and owners than money. They are more than reasonably priced and are proactive. I have been to five different vets in cairns and this one is 100 per cent better. They are all truly amazing people.
