Me and my other friend went to spot X for 3 days. Luckily the other people who also signed up for the surf camp were amazing, we made a great group of friends. Despite this, the staff were awful, they were so rude when you would ask a question, they weren’t about in emergencies and there were simply no rules. There was multiple times we were close to leaving and demanding our money back due to how badly the staff treated us. The organisation was a shambles, the staff would simply go missing, no instructor for our lessons and they also didn’t pick people up from their greyhound spot, due to ‘skipping their alarm’. The place is so dirty. They also sell in lots of other activities. We payed a lot of money for here, yet no photos, extra surfing, nothing was included. This stay was not worth the money and I would highly recommend against it.

If you're in Australia and want to learn surfing, go with Mojosurf! I did the 3-night surfcamp in Arrawarra (Spot X) and it was great! The teepee tent was very cozy and comfy, the food was good and the staff was very friendly and highly knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning some more about the ocean and the waves, techniques and especially safety! Everyone could stand on the board after the first lesson! There are always enough instructors around to give some tips, and keep an eye out for everyone. Help these guys recover from the impact Covid had on them and come to Spot X for surfing lessons!

If you visit Byron Bay which is a surfer's paradise, you must take a lesson how to Surf! Having never surfed before we were a bit apprehensive but the instructors were top-notch at Mojosurf. They supplied surfboards, wetsuits and purple shirts for identification in the water. About half the class was instruction with the remainder one-on-one in the water. Our group of 16 did quite well with virtually everyone getting 'up' after the instruction even though the instructors thought the water was a bit dicey because of the waves. Afterwards we were able to take a swim in a freshwater lake to wash off the saltwater. We found this activity was well worth the money and highly recommend it!

Highly recommend Mojo Surf! I did a 3 day surf and yoga experience and absolutely loved it... wish I did a few more days. The upgrade option at The Surf House was worth it. Central, and clean hostel with everything you need. The surf lessons were just brilliant. I had Muzza for them and he was awesome. I got so much out of each one. The company itself does some really good work as well so it’s nice knowing you’re supporting a business that really gives back. If you’re heading to Byron I couldn’t recommend these guys more!

1. Safety concernsI had concerns about my safety during my stay. Inside the arts factory lodge, there is a teepee area where mojosurf stays. The lodge doesn’t have an entry door - the entrance is not secure and the teepees don’t have a lock. This means anyone can walk into the lodge and enter the teepees. On my 4th night, I was alone in my teepee at 11pm when a man unzipped my teepee door then asked if he could sleep in one of the beds. He told me he was a staff member at the Arts Factory Lodge although I’d never seen him around. It was also known to the surfers that there was a man (not from the surf camp) who slept in a nearby teepee the previous two nights and it creeped the girls out. The teepee was then secured with a lock.I believed that it was the same man going around the teepees so I phoned reception and they came to help. I would have liked for mojosurf to be more proactive about securing the teepees so that surfers can feel safe.2. No bike hire / board hireI was hoping to get bike hire as the lodge is 15 minutes walk away from the town and beach. The website talks about free bike hire and board hire but when I asked reception or mojo staff about it, I realised that it doesn’t exist.3. Breakfast not healthyThe breakfast is sugary cereals (cornflakes, coco pops) and highly processed and refined foods (white bread, ham, cheese). There were tomatoes and fruit but it was limited and most people had cereal and bread. Not the best breakfast for people who are surfing everyday.Besides this I wanted to say that the mojosurf on-site staff (surf instructors, photographer, bus driver, etc) are great.

Highly recommend Mojo Surf! I haven't surfed in 10 years and took a group lesson and thanks to the amazing instructor, James was able to pick it up again quite quickly. The lesson was very well organised from pick up to surf location and surfboards. James made sure we understand the conditions of the ocean before we got in which was very helpful. He also paid great attention to everyone in the group and made sure we got feedback that would help us improve our skills.

I really enjoyed my lessons with Mojo surf. The instructors in both Byron and Spot X are very helpful and friendly. The lessons cater towards both complete beginners or those who have surfed before. Also there is a great atmosphere on the surf and stay, and it is a good way for solo travellers to make friends.

Just finished my surf and stay package in Byron. What an awesome time! Accommodation was good, surf instructors were amazing (special shout out to Waps, Muz, Dave and Noah for getting me up and riding green waves!) and the food was yummy. Would recommend if you want to learn to surf and hang out with the people that know where the good waves are!

James and Gus are legends!! They got my first timer family (two kids 9 and 8, wife and me) riding gnarly waves!!!! Great friendly and patient staff, dog friendly beach and good surfboards - as far as I know... I mean we got up on them so they must be magical boards! Totally 5 thumbs up and recommend to anyone with the urge to surf in Byron/Ballina!
