Affordable dinner in Melbourne! Usually i don’t dip any sauce for chicken rice but the red sauce is amazing!!! The rice potion is big, and the chicken is so tender~

Lunch @tws_GaiWong for the Single Set - Hainanese Chicken Rice:Succulent boneless chicken served with fragrant flavoured rice, cucumbers, and signature sauces (spring onion & ginger sauce and chilli garlic sauce). The chicken in this dish is served cold as per tradition. The chicken broth is tasty and I love the fragrant rice oozing chicken flavour. The rice is hot enough to lightly warm the succulent tender chicken. Taking a bit of rice, chicken, the chilli garlic sauce and the oh so delicious spring onion & ginger oil, each bite is to be savoured. Sated my chicken rice craving.#ChineseFood #lunch #hainanesechickenrice #chickenrice #chickenbroth #chillisauce #melbournefood #melbournecbd @zomatomelb

Well run, casual restaurant offering simple yet tasty Malaysian dishes. Rice was a bit uncooked, but acceptable. I was hoping I could give this place a 5/5 but it didn’t quite make it. Would I go again? Yeah, but not my my first pick due to location.

Gai Wong was a casual eatery serving cold hainanese chicken rice and other Singaporean/Malaysian street food. We went there for lunch, got their speciality chicken rice, roast pork, and Uncle Lip’s chicken wings. I wasn’t a fan of their hainanese chicken as it was served cold (obv a personal preference thing) and the chicken rice wasn’t too fragrant, but loved the freshly fried flavourful chicken wings and crispy skinned roast pork. Their dishes were well-priced, although portions were really small. Overall, not a bad quick casual dining option.

3 of us came there first time and tried each set with fragrant rice and Chicken, Roast Pork and Char Siew Pork. We ordered Chai Boey, Chicken Wings and Chicken Skin too. The portion is satisfying as you will end up coming out of restaurant with full tummy (happy tummy!).The fragrant rice was delicious, the hainanese chicken was juicy, tender and yummy. The roast pork and charsiew pork were on point. The chili and ginger sauce which i reckon is homemade probably the best sauce so far i had in chinese restaurants in Melbourne. The chicken wings was disappointing as its not crunchy, not that hot too. I had high expectations though for the chicken wings. The Chai Boey was delicious as we wouldn’t get this level of soup here in Melbourne. But overall, i would come back to this restaurant again. I love the food, service and the vibe. Gai Wong offers simple menu yet focus and delicious. I love this type of restaurant that know what they doing and good at it.

Ordered Uber package delivery from GW for lunch and was not disappointed! Chicken was super smooth and tender, char siew was sweet and fatty, siew yok was perfectly crunchy and juicy at the same time. All of it topped off with generous portions of fragrant rice. Definitely the best chicken rice in Melbourne and worth the Uber delivery fee! If you’re craving Malaysian/Singaporean chicken rice, there’s no better place for it!

Ordered the family set, gizzard, chicken crackling. Chicken had silky smooth skin and succulent meat. Char siew was tasty with good bite texture. Gizzard had nice bite texture as well and had a subtle flavour. Chicken lacked flavour even with the sauce. Chicken crackling was crispy but tasteless. Chili lacked flavour and spice. Rice was lumpy and heavy. All food was served cold except for the soup. I understand that hainanese chicken is usually served at room temperature but the rice should have at least been warm to offset that. Because that's how it's done back home in Malaysia and Singapore.Update: Ordered the pao ka Liao noodles for $17. Generous serving of roast pork and pork lard. 1 piece of curry chicken and potato each. Individual ingredients were nice enough but probably wouldn't order it again as the mix was a bit heavy. A staff member was having a very delicious looking laksa that I asked about and were thinking about bringing onto the menu. I hope they do.

The best chicken rice in Melbourne. I’ve been here too many times to count. It is my go to for chicken rice and something I crave when I’ve had a bad day. The chicken is so yummy and juicy. The rice is fragrant. It is a specialty store which only sells what uncle lip is mastered so don’t expect a huge menu but simple food done well.Uncle lip also loves dogs so I get to bring my fur baby along and sit on the patio (with a heater for cold nights) to enjoy my meal.
