Derby lapidary club
Blink and you miss it so DON'T BLINK as you drive through Derby because this little gem of a place is well worth a stop. They have a cabinet full of jewellery pieces created by local artisans. They can put you in touch with the makers if you want to buy something or discuss a commission, like I did. They're open Wednesdays and Saturdays all year round. For $25 you can join the club and you get 3 free day visits to use their equipment. Then it's only $7 a day. Local clubbies supervise and teach and guide you in the use of the wheels and tools and stuff to help you polish and work on your finds.
