I have never experienced such amazing service at a restaurant. The absolute queen in the kitchen came and sat at our table to double check and accomodate for our dietary needs. Not to mention the food was absolute bussing. I would recommend this place with my whole heart. 100% a fantastic meal and experience.

Pork and Chive dumplings were divine. Very generous filling, perfectly cooked, soft, silken. Wonderful lasting after taste that is always a feature of fine dining.

Portion is very small compared to other Asian restaurants. Taste wise, not fantastic and service is indeed very slow unless you have patience. Else, pleasant service, who are basically family members.

Delicious Malaysian inspired food but have to say very expensive for the portions served. Ordered a salmon dish $24 for just one piece of salmon...that was it. No rice no veg. Ordered stir fried greens to share, also very small. Hainan chicken too was on the small serving side no clear soup as served with most Hainan chicken. Paid $65 between two including one serve of jasmine tea each and came away still hungry. My guest and I are both small 46 kg people who don't eat much! Very disappointed especially with the salmon dish.

Gorgeous food, friendly service, appealing wine list (all wines available by glass plus byo), nice selection of teas, yummy desserts, relaxed setting - a Darlinghurst icon - always check current opening hours, they fluctuate ;-) Dec 2021: lunch 12-3, dinner takeaway only Wed-Fri

My 90 year old mum and I were attracted to this cozy place by the sign outside advertising Hai Nan Chicken Rice, one of our all time favourite dishes, having sampled literally hundreds during our many trips to Penang and Singapore in the 70s and 80s. The lovely cook/manager Annie warned us the dish was not your conventional one, but had a slight Thai twist to it, and asked us if we were ok with the ginger sauce being served on top of the chicken instead of separately, as is tradition. Then we were assaulted by the smell of what seemed to be shrimp paste, tamarind & ginger from the kitchen- the sauce whipped up fresh for us. Our bowls appeared: Fluffy rice steamed in chicken broth with tender poached breast pieces coated in the sauce, with a small bowl of chicken broth on the side. All components great, but the real winner was the ginger sauce. This was simply stunning! A modern Thai twist to a simple dish executed superbly. Without a doubt, the best Hai Nan Chicken Rice we've tasted in over 40 years of eating it.Do yourself a favour- visit Fu Manchu if only for the chicken rice. You won't regret it!We shared roti with potato curry for entree and this was also superb. The curry was to die for.If their other dishes are up to the standard of the 2 dishes we had, this restaurant is a real winner. The cook and waitress were very friendly, service was great, price very reasonable, and food amazing.5 plus stars.

Had the Padang Rendang Beef. I have never had such an amazing version before. This is not to be missed, nothing like I’ve had before, it’s done dry with so much flavour with spices and herb which I’ve been searching for a couple of years to come across a similar version. All others seem more of a sauce with flavour then the meat added during the process. To me personally, this is the gold standard - that’s just my ideal. I thought it was closed down but I’ve just looked that the hours have been reduced since Covid. Next time I’m at St Vinnies, it’ll be Thursday to good some goodness back into my life!!
