Ishinryu Karate Australia - Menai classes for all ages

I am a student at IKA and I love it. Couldn't recommend it more. I have done it all my life and I love how professional and organised it is (not to mention the amazing, dedicated senseis). They have classes for all ages, all skill levels, all through the week. Come and give it a try!!!

I'm a student here and started 12 years ago when I was 7. I have received nothing but kindness, and support, and developed the dedication and motivation to continue all these years. Classes are suitable for a variety of times, whether you are a student going to school, an adult with a 9-5 job, or somewhere in-between :))

Ishinryu is an amazing club to join particularly for women of any age. It’s tough but fun and gives you heaps of confidence. I have always felt included and supported for my abilities. The club is family orientated and a safe place for you to train.

Even though Ishinryu Karate (and this club) were founded by karate royalty, and the senior instructors have international and national experience, the dojo is incredibly friendly and family-oriented. New students are made to feel welcome and classes are fun, all the while training to a very high standard. Higher grade classes have an emphasis on good form and techniques that work. Thoroughly recommend!

My journey with Ishinryu started in 1986 when I was 18yo. When I first met the founder of Ishinryu in Australia, Sensei Tony Hails, he was a 3rd Dan black belt and Australian Champion in sports karate. Before long I was hooked. My medal tally is small, but the discipline and character that karate has developed in me are the real prizes for me. Sensei Tony took a scared, skinny beginner and forged him into a black belt. When my career took me interstate I trained with other instructors in other styles. They each had their virtues, but none were as fulfilling to me as training with Ishinryu. Attending their all-styles annual Summer Course since 2012 I was privileged to be able to train with an incredible array of karate instructors from around the world, including world-champion coaches like Ishinryu founder Sensei Ticky Donovan and multiple times world champion athlete Sensei Wayne Otto (Google them folks). In December 2020 Sensei Tony Hails 8th Dan and Sensei Alison Peachey 6th Dan invited me to Sydney to undertake my 3rd Dan grading. I knew I needed to return to Sydney because this club, and these people, are where my heart is. It’s a great privilege and a great pleasure to be back training with Ishinryu. I can only encourage you to start your journey too.

My 10 yr old looks forward to her classes with Sensei Alison each week. It’s a great environment where not only the kids are taught self defence and discipline but the participants enjoy the mental and physical training.We absolutely recommend Ishinryu Karate Aus - Menai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ishinryu Karate in Menai is exactly what I was after in a martial arts dojo for my young son and myself. This small dojo's pedigree is astonishingly impressive, with Chief Sensei Tony a very successful and highly experienced international competitor and coach. Students of the dojo continue to compete at the highest international levels.Yet for all that the dojo is a friendly and welcoming place for complete neophytes like myself. It doesn't matter what your age or ability is the atmosphere is always one of support and encouragement.When I was looking for a dojo I wanted to avoid aggressive training for wannabe cage fighters and martial discipline schools that are almost religious in their fervour. Ishinryu Karate is neither, but as their pedigree shows, they are not some unremarkable dojo either.At the end of the first year my son had learned some valuable lessons about effort and results and I felt a lot fitter. More importantly we are looking forward to another year of training!I can't recommend Ishinryu Karate highly enough.

Great karate club with good teachers catering for students of all ages (5+ to adults) and all levels of ability. It's a great place to learn karate and fitness in a safe and family friendly environment.

Such an amazing community to be apart of!! Especially as a female, I have always felt included and equally as recognised in my skills, felt supported to keep learning and achieving my next goal. Highly skilled instructors who are more than willing to share their knowledge. Highly recommend if your wanting a great community to be apart of while also keeping fit.
