Finch Bay
Very scenic and clean beach with enormous granite boulders as the backdrop. The walking track from the Botanical Gardens was special and well shaded. Many huge stringy bark trees ... quite beautiful. The track was well defined but with lots of steps.

AMENITIES* Toilet* Bin* Litter bagsYou can drive, or walk 800 meters from the Cooktown Botanical Gardens. The bay itself is sheltered between two granite rock buffs on either side.Sand crabs scurry about during high tide amongst their sand balls.A large rock (Whale Rock) can be scaled to see an elevated view of the Bay itself and take a few photos.Towards the opposite end upon entry is a path to reach the Botanical Gardens 800 meters or Cherry Tree Bay is a 1km away by foot. Google stated that Cherry Tree would take 30 minutes each way and the path is moderate to walk/climb.We saw some local boys netting in the water, apparently crocodiles do not frequent the bay. But they were on the far left of crocodile creek. There are signs that remind you that the appearance of a crocodile is a possiblity. Err on the side of caution and do not go for a swim.Dog owners like to bring them unleashed to run up & down the bay. If you are nervous with dogs, this might be an issue for you.NOTE DOG OWNERSThere are litter bags and a bin. If you intend on unleashing your pooch, please save our feet & stomachs by picking up their hot dogs left on the sand!!
