We were booked to stay at Alpenhorn for a week but due to the current border restrictions and lockdowns we were unable to go. We were frustrated to know that $6k of accommodation for our bucket list holiday was non refundable and non transferable which was clearly outlined in the T&C’s when we booked. We were so grateful that the team at Alpenhorn were willing to negotiate with us so that half of the party that were travelling with us could still go as they are in NSW but could he moved to a smaller room and free up the family room we had booked for another lucky guest. It was disturbing to hear when speaking with Alpenhorn how threatening other guests had been towards them about being their bookings. This is a small seasonal business that missed out on last years season also through no fault of their own so people need to be kind and work with them rather than attack them. They were nothing but accommodating and lovely to us through this process and we look forward to getting there next year…hopefully!!

I am writing this review in hope that I will help you reading this make a wiser decision on your accommodation booking at Thredbo. We had booked to stay in August 2021 (snow season) in order to snowboard.Due to the NSW lockdown, we as they were impacted.First, they would not refund or even work with us to arrange new dates. It took a 1 star Google review in order to receive a phone call from one of the staff members to negotiate new dates. Unfortunately all that we were offered were summer (November) dates, October and November are Thredbo's quietest months of the year. I requested to push our winter booking to the following year though was advised that this was not an option as their booking window for the following season was not open, only to go on multiple sites like booking.com and find out that they actually were in fact taking bookings for winter 2022.If there is anything I could say about this friendly lodge" is that they need to re-think their business plan as they are going to continue losing future business.I walked in to many other lodges for quotes for winter 2022 during my November stay and found that they all offer either a 90% or 100% refund due to unforeseen circumstances such as COVID-19 lockdowns.I strongly suggest staying away from Alpenhorn during times of uncertainty to avoid total loss of expenses."

Do not stay here. Like everyone in this thread I too am out of pocket ($4000) that I have been squirreling away for a year to pay for my family to do a 4 night stay at the snow this year. Unable to go anywhere with a Government enforced lockdown rendering us unable to travel, not change of mind. When we booked in March there was no Delta variant risk. There were no lockdowns in NSW. So it makes me wonder if they have all of this money from the people providing bad reviews also not receiving a refund, since June/July, that they’ve pocketed without refunding a penny, for providing NO goods or services WHILST also being eligible to claim regional Govt tourism support - they are just immoral. I can’t understand why if they’re keeping the money why can’t my booking be moved to July or August in 2022? Or why can’t there be a cancellation fee percentage? I’m so upset, furious and will be taking this further with the ACCC/fair trading. With the service thus far there is no way they will be trading and open in 2022 anyway! Disappointed is an understatement. Family friendly? I think not. Mismanagement might give them some short term profit but long term karma. I hope the owners sleep well knowing they've got thousands off people for providing no service.

As others have said ……. DO NOT EVER STAY HERE -AWFUL SERVICE (by awful people)We are down more than $4,000 ($12,000 all up for 3 families) due to Covid restrictions and the lockdown in Sydney…. They have shown no interest in being reasonable - will not refund or roll booking to winter 2022 - only offer has been comically a summer stay which is 1/3 of the price of winter rates in lieu of skiing in August!I never thought a business would treat its customers with such contempt and profit out of the COVID situation when so many people are facing hardship.Other Thredbo resorts are offering refunds or Winter 2022 alternatives and not hiding behind t&c’s that they “remained open”, despite Sydney residents not legally being able to access Thredbo. The owners have not bothered to surface, and the resort has refused to return all calls, emails and will not engage with us in any way.No wonder there are such negative reviews here…..Wouldn’t usually post a review but the service and attitude of this resort was so appalling I have felt compelled.Stay elsewhere to avoid the nightmare I am going through.DO NOT GIVE ALPENHORN YOUR BUSINESS. THEY DO NOT DESERVE IT!!!

My friend and I booked a 3-day stay with Alpenhorn and paid over $1600. We are unable to go due to COVID restrictions. We tried to call but never get responses, and we tried to send emails too but still are ignored. We contacted booking.com and was told that Alpenhorn refused to provide any refunds or credits and if we want to talk, talk to Alpenhorn directly. We sent follow-up email but are still yet to hear back from this property. We understand businesses are not easy during this tough time but as individuals so do we! Government probably provide support to this business while we are simply left unsupported with just frustrations. I’m extremely disappointed and upset. I just feel Alpenhorn does not deserve any support even after COVID. Will never choose them again!

Do not book this accommodation during covid!!Me and my family booked 3 nights costing us roughly $2400 before we had to cancel our trip due to being in lock down. A week has passed since our planned visit and Alpenhorn lodge has been uncontactable over many attempts. I understand small businesses are struggling during this period, however, effectively stealing from the public whilst dodging any questions is not the right approach.

Me and my fiancé had 2 nights booked. We spent $1057 and due the COVID restrictions we were not allowed to stay at Alpenhorn. We’re been tried an friendly solution reschedule or get a refund though emails and calls, but Alpenhorn won’t even return my calls and emails. I’m DISAPPOINTED because as everyone we’ve been working so hard to earn money here Australia, it wasn't EASY money to earn to lose that way.

As per comments below I am extremely disappointed at such disdain for customers. We spent in excess of $4000 for a week with this place in winter 2021. As the govt. shut down the whole state for Covid we would have been thrown in jail if we went.We asked for a refund - NO!We asked for a Winter 2022 booking - NO!We were offered a Summer booking where rates are far cheaper and obviously no snow which our children who were very excited to see. There is nothing family friendly about this organisation. They have hidden their ABN in shell companies so we suspect a bunch of shareholders getting rich off the hard working tourist dollar with no conscience whatsoever.I too was impacted by covid but i followed the fair trading advice to work in good faith to negotiate a fair resolution for all parties.DO NOT BOOK HERE. Please choose to give your hard earned dollar to a business that will appreciate you.

Extremely disappointed ...., after paying $4,000 to the lodge only a few days before Sydney was placed in a COVID lockdown, the people at the lodge told us it was bad luck and our fault for not buying travel insurance. After chasing them several times for a refund they offered us a free stay in November, which is probably the only month of the year they don't have any business. Alpenhorn are obviously not interested in repeat business.

NEVER SUPPORT THIS BUSINESSThey do not care about the travellers to the region that have been restricted due to COVID health orders and have refused refunds. Our booking confirmation form has no mention of it being non-refundable and despite this the NSW Government is forbidding our travel due to the current health orders and Emily on the phone told us TOUGHWe try to support Australian Tourism as we understand how having a small business has been affected by the restrictions but this hotel has no compassion to others doing it tough.
