My partner and i hired Bill to do some photography for our engagement party. Before the event Bill was helpful with ideas, but the event itself has been a dissapointment. Firstly we were quoted and had paid for 5hrs of photography, with only 3 hours on the night being taken. When trying to resolve this with bill for either a refund on the two additional hours paid for or an additional photo shoot with my partner and i, he refused all and then proceeded to block us both. Hiring Bill for our special event was a great mistake, with the limited photos taken missing the mark on the majority of them. We had hoped to resolve this amicably but being blocked and refusing to come to the party has really made it clear he just wants to sell and run.

My partner and I hired Bill to provide photography for our engagement party so we can be more present throughout the event. We were clear that we wanted photography for five hours and some fairy lights would be a lovely touch to add to the venue. It quickly became a conversation about all other services he could provide and lead to almost weekly phone conversations before the event, which we felt was a bit unnecessary (it’s only an engagement party after all and we literally just wanted photos) but can’t fault him for wanting to be thorough. It wasn’t until a week or so prior to the event we got the quote, which as expected was more than we were initially told as he placed too much emphasis on upselling his other services. I politely declined the uplighting add on as it was 1/3 of the photography price - which was all that we had wanted. When messaging after that, he was very short and not as nice to deal with as I suppose he wanted the sale of the uplighting. Four days prior, I checked in asking if we were all track for Saturday and it was all confirmed to be good to go, but again, he pushed for the uplighting add on and said he’ll bring them on the day and install them to see if we like it. On the night of our event, the photographer left after three hours despite us having paid for five (from 5:30 to 10:30pm). Bill was in the same corner near the bar the whole night talking and eating the food provided as part of the event. I’m told from our other guests, he was upselling his services for birthdays etc and being quite pushy. I have queried Bill as to receiving a refund for the two hours of photography we did not receive and he says he cannot afford to do that as he broke even that night, which is a very poor response for something we paid for in full but did not receive the full service. The photos themselves were of poor quality, most of my back facing away, mid sentence while talking or after a moment had already happened rather than during. The angles were shocking and even the one nice photo my partner and I have together - you can clearly see that the photographer directed us incorrectly where shadows are partially falling on my face and my partner is in the light. I’d think that is photography 101. If what we received were the edited photos that are meant to be the nicest of the bunch, I’d hate to think what the unedited photos were. I’m extremely disappointed with the quality and service and am really quite upset that my partner and I simply do not have well taken photos together and are expected to be okay with having paid for five hours when we got three hours of photography. Absolutely would not recommend and one star is still too generous.Edit - since having posted my review, Bill has not reached out to offer a solution and has completely blocked me. This is such appalling behaviour from a professional .
