Was very disappointed with the information centre, there was hardly any brochures to pick up on things to do in cooktown. We found heaps inside the reception at the Cooktown Holiday Park, and very helpful Staff.Maybe have a Information Centre in town so caravans can park easily.Just a thought....

Set in the lush botanic gardens, this is a must-do in Cooktown. The exhibitions in the Vera Scarth-Johnson gallery are priceless. One of local orchids meticulously painted by a local enthusiast. The other: botanical illustrations by Vera Scarth-Johnson herself hung beside prints of the same plants drawn by Sydney Parkinson for Joseph Banks and printed in the Banks Florilegium. Simply stunning. I wish I had paid more attention in first year Botany.

We pre-called to ask if there was still food for service in the cafe. They said kitchen is closed but you can buy food in the display. We walked to visit the botanical gardens and have a bite to eat and even tho they close at 4pm they had stopped selling food... this was 15minutes after we called.... very disapointing!

A very pleasant outlook into botanic gardens. The food is fresh and delicious with healthy variety and interesting options and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's a gallery with local artworks and a great little gift shop.
