Penny at Meakins Jewellers is such an amazing and talented jeweller!! She helped me create the most amazing engagement ring for my fiancé that she absolutely adores!! I recently ordered a stone and had my partner’s engagement ring handcrafted by Penny at Meakins Jewellers. Penny was extroadinarily helpful to me throughout the entire process; the service she provided, exemplary. At my first appointment, I remember her saying “I have the best job in the world, I get to make beautiful handcrafted pieces of jewellery for people as a symbol of their love for one another.”I had a tremendous amount of questions along the way. I understood the 4 C’s, but as with anything, there are levels. Over a number of weeks, speaking back and forth with Penny, what I came to understand is how deep the levels go and how a very small variation can make a substantial difference in the final product.The first day I went in, I wanted a ring. What I didn’t expect was the education that I was provided with that aided me through the process and enabled me to come to my decision.The ring is stunning. When I chose the stone, I was happy. When I got the call from Penny that it was finished I went right in and picked it up. When I saw it for the first time, finished, I was a little lost for words. Not that you would probably think so from the length of this review. However, that is a testament to Penny, her craftsmanship and the outstanding service Penny provides her clientele.If you are looking to have something special made, and you want genuine and honest advice without the “hard sell” you may get at a “commercial/chain” jeweller, do yourself a favour, go down and speak with Penny.

I've wanted some unusual and custom pieces made over the years, and Meakins is the only place I'd ever consider going. Penny not only helped me with getting exactly what I was after, but very often she made recommendations and suggestions that actually saved me money too. Obviously her priority is customer satisfaction, not the bottom line.It's so lovely to be treated like an individual and genuinely heard, and it's reflected in the pieces she makes; she clearly genuinely cares that you get a piece you're truly happy with.I've recommended Meakins to so many people, and will continue to do so. My experience with Meakins Jewellers has been exceptional! My husband to be contacted Penny for something different and they worked together to design an exceptional pear shaped diamond solitaire that really blew my away. The fact that Penny involved my husband in the design process made it extra special. We did not hesitate to return to Meakins for our wedding rings and eternity rings. Would highly recommend Meakins for your special occasions.

I first contacted Penny over email and her replies were very prompt and she was more than happy to help.I had an existing white gold engagement ring (from elsewhere that had lost stones) that I wanted remodelled using my grandmothers yellow gold wedding band and I was after a new stone to go in the centre. After talking to Penny we decided on a salt and pepper diamond. She was very helpful and got several salt and peppers of different sizes and colours in for me to chose from.I showed Penny some pictures and talked about what I was after for the design. She gave me a very reasonable quote and of course we went ahead with the remodel.Penny was very accomodating and completely understood what I was after.I am beyond happy with my final result and it couldn't be more perfect, she totally understood what I wanted and I would definitely 100% recommend her to anyone for any work you want done.

We have had several custom designs from this outstanding Jewler. Our engagement rings are unique, always noticed, and complimented by those who see them.I have also had bespoke earnings made as a 21st gift, they are beautiful and loved by the recipient. Customer service is flawless and price very competitive. 100% recommend.

My now fiancé, designed and created my engagement ring at Meakins with Penny. I can not vouch for the experience (though he raves it was exceptional) but I can offer the highest praise possible for the end result. I couldn't be happier with the ring, it suits my hand and my personal style so very well. It is individual, comfortable to wear and I have resorted to gazing at my hand and collecting complements from all who see it. I can't thank you enough, Penny, for crafting the perfect piece that I will treasure forever.

'What an ugly ring'...was my husband's response when he saw what Penny crafted from 4 existing rings. We'd picked up the new ring, unwisely running late for a hair appointment, during which I had more time to appraise it. He was right. It was ugly.When I told Penny, she correctly said she'd followed my instructions exactly. Yet, her visualisation process was basic at best (a blue wax ring with black marks on it) so I couldn't see how my design would look and, clearly, her experience hadn't warned her that it would look hideous.When I asked about a price to remodel it, Penny said that dismantling would be delicate and expensive and, anyway, she was too busy for a few months to quote for it. She suggested I use this time to get used to the ring. I tried but, to me, it was too ugly to wear. It had cost me $1,900.Months later, I decided to take Penny's offer of $500 towards a remodel by another Wollongong jeweller, who quoted me $1,600 to dismantle, melt down, remodel (including visualisation and 2 new sapphires), plus a record of all stones and weights, and an insurance valuation.Pic one is Penny's design, pic 2 is the other jeweller's visualisation process and pic 3 is the other jeweller's design. I now have an exquisite ring I adore but, sadly, it cost me $3,000 instead of $1,500.
