I wish to say that I received excellent treatment in the Emergency department yesterday and today.(January 27 and 28).I had AF and was treated all day yesterday, then allowed to go home for the night and report back in this morning. My issue was resolved by lunchtime today. The doctors and nurses worked well as a team, they were professional, friendly and made me feel valued. I observed them for a day treating others who were admitted into emergency, they treated everyone kindly and respectfully, and with much patience! Despite being busy and responding to patient demands, the team were friendly and efficient.Thank you!

If i could i would truly give this 0 stars.Grafton Hospital is truly the definition of disgrace and disgust. My mother was scheduled for a surgery that was told to be keyhole. They later then cut her open. She has contracted an infection. My mother waited hours there for the nurses and surgeon to try then cancel the surgery as they had a “missing piece”, From my knowledge all inventory for a surgery is to be recorded the day prior to prevent this incident. They then tossed her and my family around with information. She was admitted into surgery 2pm she was put into recovery hours prior to us receiving a call at 9:30pm to then find out they had no communication to one another about if she was in or out.The surgeon then lied about “Grafton Policies” to also cancel the surgery. My mother was then first day in recovery and was ignored until midday. They didnt help her eat (She couldnt move her body due to the extreme pain what she stated to them). They then placed the food infront of her and told her to figure it out. They would not give her, her dentures to eat. They wouldnt shower her at all. NUM (nursing unit manager) then came in frantic and showered my mother. That truly shows right there the disgrace these nurses are as the head of nursing had to take in her own hands and shower her.Later throughout the day the nurses had left the sheet of information for each resident in that ward. Numbers, Names, Addresses it all. My mother is a nurse of 14 years and stated all of the correct ways she shouldve been offered help yet no one helped or listened. My family and i are disappointed and disgusted. Not just by the way my mother was treated but the pure lack of empathy, respect, responsibility or even compassion. If you are ever scheduled here for a surgery and recovery refuse and go to Coffs Hospital or just anywhere else please.

I would rather give birth on the side of the road then ever go back to this disgrace they call a Maternity ward.I’m not sure how some of these heartless people have jobs. I was treated horribly during the period I spent in hospital, I was given little knowledge considering it was my first baby & she was premature! Deadset joke in there.

Went there with a fractured humerus resulting from a motorcycle accident and waited 4 hours to see a doctor. Numerous patients who arrived after me were attended to sooner, and I was one of the last people left in the waiting area before my turn came around. Communication was poor and most staff seemed disinterested in my condition or state. Some staff had 'not my problem' written on their faces. Fortunately, the staff at my local hospital, which I visited less than 24 hours later, met my expectations for care and professionalism.

I recently had fairly major surgery at this hospital.I am a retired health worker & know how difficult & stressful the role can be.All the staff were exceptional. They were caring & skilled in their various roles.I was pleasantly reminded how well they all work as a team, especially with Covid on the door step.A big thank you to all of you, especially theatre staff, allied health, domestics, kitchen staff, pharmacists & of course the wonderful nurses.

(Previous review (2017), 4 stars, good service from doctors but poor waiting room. Over time, this has changed and I feel very differently about the hospital now.)A tremendous lack of empathy is extremely prevalent amongst a surprising amount of staff from my personal experience and the experiences my relatives have had here over the years. I don't question their skill in their field, as some are probably exceedingly good nurses, doctors, etc. But their approach to how they treat some patients leaves much to be desired.Beds are always full and some staff make a habit of making you feel like garbage for even suggesting that you may need a bed.I get it - you can't give beds you don't have. But if you work in nursing or in the medical field whatsoever, one of the most basic things you learn is how to treat the patients you're treating. A little empathy and compassion would go a long way.And I genuinely believe there is a serious lack of that here. The treatment given to patients is borderline heartless sometimes. If I were on death's door, I'd rather be driven to another city's hospital at great risk to my own health simply because the total lack of empathy and compassion at Grafton Base would drive me to suicide. The only exception were the extremely kind ambulance drivers. I am glad they were there to help.

I'm full of praise for the treatment I received after breaking an ankle bone.Prompt and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment in Emergency, and referral to the Fracture Clinic for follow-up. Thank you to all staff involved for their professionalism, kindness and assisting me to cope with my reduced mobility. I couldn't have asked for better care.
