Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area
Bribie Island offers beautiful coastal scenery, low-key bush camping spots, popular boating and fishing areas in Pumicestone Passage, excellent birdwatching opportunities and spring wildflowers.Bribie Island National Park and Recreation Area features sand dunes, heaths, paperbark wetlands, open forests, woodlands, freshwater creeks and lagoons.Tidal wetlands and waters around Bribie Island are protected as part of Moreton Bay Marine Park. Fish, crabs and prawns breed in Pumicestone Passage and dugong feed on its seagrass communities. Thousands of shorebirds feed and roost here.Cultural heritage includes shell middens and other evidence of Aboriginal people's traditional use of the area, and weathered structures remaining from the World War II coastal defence system.Fort Bribie became part of a national defence system in World War II and was the first line of defence in Moreton Bay to protect Brisbane. The island was considered an ideal location for artillery batteries due to the close vicinity of the shipping channels. At the end of the war, coastal defences were scaled down and suitable building materials from Fort Bribie were disassembled and transported off the island for other uses. Some of the barrack buildings were cut off their stumps and sold as houses, leaving only the concrete slabs and stumps.Weathered gun emplacements and searchlight buildings, characteristic of the six-inch gun batteries used to defend Queensland's coastline during the war, are located along the ocean beach foredunes. Bribie Island Second World War Fortifications are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, as an example of Australia’s cultural heritage.

As a VIC tourist, it was amazing to be able to get on the sand at an amazing location, downside was the gooses who didn’t air down and blocked our trek onto the beachfront. Also don’t be like our mate and park on any vegetation as the rangers will come fine you.

This place had a major refurbishment in recent times and it certainly was greatly needed. Carpark has been extended, security cameras everywhere and more do and don't signs than you can poke a stick at.This review is just about the carpark facilities, new electronic sign gives you up to date info, which at the time of this review ( 17/11/21) shows the Northern Access Track still closed.Kudos to the council for upgrading this much needed facility.Update 13/4/22 --Beach driving times !Update 19/5/22 & 30/5/22.Park closed until further notice, check the website for further information.Everything open except for the Northern Access Track as from 11/6/2219/01/23, take care driving on White Patch , 4 horses have been roaming around for months and are regularly crossing the road at all hours.

Lovely spot. We camped in swags on the beach at Mission Point. Amazing! There is a long drop a short walk away from the sites. Bring your own firewood as collecting from the bush could land you a fine.Whether they were sand flies, midges, mosquitoes or horse flies they were ridiculously fierce! Nearly carried away the youngest lad with us. Bring heavy duty bug spray with all of the Deet, you’ve been warned!

We camped at Gallagher point, (camp site only) unfortunately, if you don't take ALL your water you won't get a shower, and you have to take your own toilet. I know it's a national park, but it would be nicer stay.

Beach offroading located close to Brisbane. The lagoons offer a leisurely spot by the water while children can play in the shallow waters.Being a National Park, pets are not allowed except in the designated areas.

Went up to Fort Bribie by the two WW2 gun battery placements (concrete structures in phototos.) via the inland track. Found it to be a very soft sand track. Tyres went down to 12 PSI. Great run. Stayed at the Ocean Beach camp which has basic camp area. Long drops were there and cold showers. Came back via the beach. Great trip and great scenery.
