Lake Mountain Summit

The 800m walk (uphill) from the car park is worth it. Visited on an overcast summer afternoon and yet the view was amazing. On a clear day the view must be even better. The walk was lined with wildflowers which was beautiful!

Nice place to enjoy the snow away from the main crowd in the resort. Lake mountain is the closest place to Melbourne to experience snowfall, just 2h drive.

Easy 1km walk from carpark to the sign. First 200m are the steepest. Highly recommend taking the walk to The Alps Lookout as the walk there was such a lush green garden.

The summit is just 800m from the car park. But yes...the incline can be tricky for the elderly or beginner hiker. The summit has great views of the forest though!

We made it the Granite Grind loop walk!

I arrived around 9am and walked to the summit.A decent path led to spectacular picturesque views of the valley and Marysville. I was the only one there so it was serene. A very light falling of snow so and sun shining, perfection.

Our favorite place, well one of many. this time I was bit surprise that these annoying horse flies been absolutely everywhere, but we picked a perfect day. Amazing views, relaxing time, no visitors. We had an excellent time. BTW walk from the carpark is a short and easy. I think you have to combine that with walk on ski tracks to get your blood pumping.

I did the Summit Loop and it took about 1.5 hours. Parts of the walking track is shared with mountain bikers so keep a look out for them while walking. It can be a bit muddy after rain and there are sections where you have to scramble over rocks and fallen tree trunks, but overall the walk is pretty easy and is well-marked (just follow the orange arrows). There are various lookouts where you can see far into the distance on a clear day. Don't forget the bug spray or wear long sleeves - I was covered in mosquito bites after the walk despite using lots of spray.The drive up to Lake Mountain Alpine Resort (where you start the loop walk) was pleasant and so beautiful. I went during the Green Season so you don't have to pay for entry onto the mountain.

We tried to walk to the summit but didn't quite make it. Mind you, it was the middle of winter and in the middle of one heck of a snow blizzard!!! (100km/h wind and driving snow.)It's a great place though. The resort was a great resting place to get out of the weather and grab some food and drinks.
