Wonderful service from the staff at The Golden Ox, prompt, friendly and attentive to our table. The food was also beautifully cooked, and the wait time was reasonable. I was happy with the price point for meals $25-$35 and the portion sizes were very generous. Came here on a Friday night, and it wasn't very busy, which was nice. The restaurant was set out in a large room and tables set with white table cloths, my friend and I were given table service & background music was a nice touch, which added to the ambience. The only slight criticism I would give (which at all did not affect our beautiful dinner) was the slight stale smell of the carpet when you first walk in. Possibly because the carpet is aged. If the Golden Ox replaced their carpet and did a little bit of redecorating, this place would be the perfect restaurant.

It’s a shame I can’t give 6 Stars!!!My wife and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary ( we got married and had the reception at The Golden Ox ) last night here.The level of service and food we received was amazing and made our night that extra special. Special mention to the Venue manager who went above and beyond to look after us and make sure we were happy and enjoying ourselves - thanks!! The staff were equally amazing. The food was perfect and delicious - hats off to the chef. Again, sincere thank you to The Golden Ox for making our anniversary a night to remember!6 STARS!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had our wedding reception here in 1987 & we loved the Golden Ox back then. We had heard it had sold & we met the manager Shaun Fitzpatrick, who went over above & beyond to make our dining experience 5 star, nothing was too much trouble for him & his wait staff. We had a large group celebrating two 30th birthdays & even though they were very busy with a wedding at the venue, meals were delicious & came out quickly. We will definitely be going back again & can’t wait to see the new improvements since the owners have taken over. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant in the lovely beach side suburb of Margate Qld.

Sorry but will not be rushing back. We were there on NY Eve … certainly not the standard that one once expected from this establishment. My fish was somewhat RAW … cold in fact, where no heat had actually touched the fish in some areas. Drink orders were incorrect, requests forgotten or ignored. Male waiter dress was untidy, and certainly did not present well for such a restaurant. Our son had his wedding reception at the Ox many years ago, it was amazing. The Golden Ox always had a winning formula …. those days are long gone. New management not doing too well, standards falling. When guests go to the Golden Ox they go with high expectations, with many OFF peninsula guests traveling to the Ox because of those expectations. No doubt many will simply stop going. Such a shame.

Great food, great host & service. Our table of 6 all enjoyed entrees, main meals & desserts. We all left happy. Meals are so reasonably priced, I was surprised it wasn’t full on a Friday night. Pub prices for way better meals & service.

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat with the family, and we were impressed with the service, quality of food, and that they were child friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, all staff were polite and friendly. We will definitely be back.

The Golden Ox Restaurant & Wedding Venue
Celebrated my husband’s Birthday tonight. We were welcomed in by Sean and he remembered we were celebrating a birthday and gave him two birthday beers. The meals were amazing. I would personally recommend the chicken dish and the lamb as well as the brûlée. The staff were very friendly and attentive and ensured we had a great eating experience. We had two younger ones with us and they treated them as young adults and made sure they were well taken care of. We will differently be back.

Family birthday dinner on the 10-6-23. The menu was impressive until you placed an order. The food we chose was not available because of an earlier function. My meal was lovely but the other meals were not. If a function is booked why didn’t they order extra food for restaurant guests.Very disappointed will not be going back.

Wonderful all round experience. Great service. The new owners did an excellent job of the drinks and meals. Catered for my request for a mocktail and produced a lovely three layered fruity fest. The place looks a bit tired now but looking forward to seeing it once they put their own stamp on it with future renovations.
