Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers
Our group of seven stayed here for two nights and it has been the most relaxing and peaceful place we’ve stayed in so far! The owners were super lovely and the proximity to the beach was great to catch those sunrises. Would absolutely visit again.

Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers
After the busyness of Sydney, it was nice to come to a lovely, quiet, relaxing site. A group of 7 of us stayed here for two nights and we wish it was longer. The owner is lovely - so kind and full of advice on things to do (the dogs and cockatoo were very adorable too). The location is perfect - right by the beach which had lovely sunrises. Rooms fully equipped with fans, bedding, fridge and chest of drawers and the kitchen space is big and clean. Would highly recommend to anyone who visits Port Stephen!

Perfect stay for nature lovers. Ideal location! Some suggestions for a better good money value: would be great to have more air in the dorms (windows with mosquito net to air at night) and better mattresses

Friendly owners, lush gardens, wildlife and close to the beach.The cabins are clean, cosy and private with a queen bed made up with fresh linen. Some cabins have a bunk bed as well. All cabins have a cute little balcony for sitting outside to eat breakfast or having drinks at sunset. They are also equipped with a fridge, dressing table, electricity, fan, and bin. The dorm rooms have the same settings.The bathrooms and kitchen areas are clean, tidy and spacious. Great place for couples or large groups. Camping is also available.

Great place for it's value - fixed price too even when it was the weekend. About 4-5 minute walk to One Mile beach. So many things I loved about this place, great design, you felt more in the natural environment, the large communal share kitchen/lounge space, facilities were kept clean, Thursday evening reptile talks, and the space is shared with other native animals. I went solo camping, but spent the evenings meeting other people in the shared common space which was nice. They also provide free bikes to ride up to the local shops at Anna Bay. The owners were really sweet, easy going and responsive. If I'm ever passing the area again, I would definitely stop by here.

Amazing stay! Excellent facilities, tranquil bush setting with huge beautifully maintained grass paddock for camping or well equipped timber cabins and kitchen lounge area, I have stayed here many times and would most definitely recommend, the hosts are really friendly and go out of their way to help with any of your needs, excellent location only few minutes walk to one mile beach.

This is a great place to stay. The grounds are beautiful and it is in a natural setting. The facilities are really good and the kitchen has everything you could want. They have lots of options, from camping, dorms and self contained cabins. The owners are also really friendly.

Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers
It was an extremely lovely and a serene experience to be so close to nature. The facilities were always clean too. We'll definitely be visiting next off season again.There were kookaburras, roosters, guineafowl and many others in the sanctuary. The owners are extremely lovely and their dogs are adorable too. The hot showers are just heavenly and we were grateful for the shower gel they provided in the new toilets.

Melaleuca Surfside Backpackers
Lovely tranquil location close to the beach. Friendly staff. Camp spot was great and secluded. Toilets and facilities lovely and clean. Only reason we rated 4 instead of 5 star is the price was quite expensive considering we had an unpowered site. Otherwise loved it.
