Engage Education is excited to be involved in the long-running and successful fortnight Summer School program held at the University of Melbourne in January.

MUSUL VCE Summer School (VCESS) is a unique VCE program that has been running since 1971. The program was designed to provide affordable and equitable education access for students who are from schools that are disadvantaged or under-represented in the Victorian tertiary system. The program aims to assist these students in their learning during their final years of high school.

In addition to providing academic support to students, the program also provides activities, workshops and the opportunity to hear from guest speakers. Participation in Summer School helps to broaden students’ interests and encourage academic learning and personal development.

VCESS is a program that is run by students, for students, that recruits volunteer tutors who are undergoing tertiary studies themselves. This is advantageous to the program, as many of the tutors have only recently completed high school and are therefore able to provide useful, in-depth knowledge on what lies ahead for these students. We feel that this is an attribute that sets our program apart from other summer schools.

The program runs for two weeks in January 2012. The timetable for these two weeks is organised into academic classes, workshops and activities.
