Port Hedland Visitor Centre

The staff in the information centre were not only helpful, but full of local interest points. I got the feeling they loved their job and Port Hedland. Thank you for the places to visit!

All great knowledge and a good place to pick-up a present

Ladies are always helpful at this tourist information centre. There is a disappointing distinct lack of any local artisans work. We booked a tour of the salt mine here - what a rip off. The salt mine tour is 90 minutes but the Day we went the mine was not in operation. Would not have wasted all that money for a bus ride. We should have been informed beforehand

What a fabulous Visitors Centre – one of the best we’ve seen in our travels over many years around the country and overseas. Greeted by the smiling and welcoming Sam who is a fantastic ambassador for Port Hedland. She described the town and its highlights with such enthusiasm, excitement and excellent knowledge of the area. Gave us a fabulous talk about the operation of the port and mining in general at one of the “Yarn with a Local” sessions, a wonderful initiative. Also told us about a “citizen scientist” Doris who gives a talk on the Reef and takes people out on the Reef at low tide to explain the various life forms out there just a short walk from the shore which was amazing. Also did the Art & Heritage trail enjoying the history and murals all over town. Enjoyed Staircase to the Moon and also beautiful Pretty Pool a quiet haven to relax. Port Hedland also has a very large free overflow camp at the racecourse providing 3 free nights which encouraged us to visit and stay. There’s a lot more to this town than mining and well worth a few extra days. Thank you Sam and Port Hedland Visitors centre

A must stop when visiting Port Hedland, especially considering the lack of tourist brochures available on the area. Make sure to check out the shipping schedule (on the outside board), so you can catch one of the iron ore boats entering or leaving the port.

I must have got a newbie on the desk, she was pretty hopeless & also did individual transactions rather than charge everything together..weird.I did the Twilight Industry Tour from here and it was fantastic! Phil is full of knowledge & made this the highlight of my week in Hedland. Must do!
