Puffing Billy Railway Lakeside Visitor Centre

Large,comfortable, clean, modern, with a lovely museum and great eatery.

Modern design, great contrast with the old railway station.But the food of the cafe inside was very average.Chips was super salty, burger was lukewarm. Maybe because today was a bit busy. Hopefully will be better at my next visit.

Clean and warm .The cafe gets very busy, if you single you cannot properly order as you need to find a table, remember your number then go to the counter to order.So this doesn't work if you come alone, very annoying.The food itself is great.Restrooms are clean.Nice walking areas and views.

Visited the visitor centre with my father today before hopping onto puffing billy and thoroughly enjoyed having a look around. The design inside the new centre is lovely and compliments the park around very well. Inside includes a gift shop, a small art corner in which a local artist has put her paintings up for display, a cafe and a small museum dedicated to Puffing Billy. The gift shop was run by a very lovely lady who helped me with purchasing a gift and the museum was full of great information and facts about the good ol’ days of puffing billy.

I was deeply unimpressed by the new Lakeside Visitor's Centre. The entire facility is a hulking black box, which is in no way sympathetic to the beautiful landscape, or the handsome, existing, heritage buildings. The area surrounding the sheds have been cleared of all trees and nature, replaced with pebbles and gleaming cement. The offerings inside do not redeem the centre. It's essentially an enormous gift shop and foodcourt, with an awkward little 'museum' tucked away at the back. I use the word museum lightly, because there is relatively little there to see, and it seems more like an afterthought to the designers. In short: it has the feel of a tourist trap which in no way connects to the surrounding grounds, gardens, lake or nature. It's a real shame this investment couldn't be used in a more sensible way.

A must see for those who love nature and trains. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

the lady on the information desk was very helpful and friendly. the shop items weren’t much pricey and can buybthem for souvenirs. beside it You'll find a big cafeteria and different options for food were there.there is also a small Museum at the end which is also nice to visit.overall the building is modern architecture with helpful facilities.this made the puffing billy trip very enjoyable.

The visitor centre is very informative and interesting. Telling you about the history and origins and what helps to keep them going.I would encourage people who are travelling to Melbourne to visit the Puffing Billy and take this iconic historical steam train because it’s an experience not to be missed.
