10 years ago, this gym easily ranked amongst the best in the state. These days it’s hardly worth the money. The cardio machines are dilapidated and frequently malfunctioning. They don’t appear to have been serviced or updated in at least 5 to 10 years. The generic weight machines are a strange choice, given the previous machines here were top quality. The building itself is frequently dirty, machines often have used tissues sitting on them for days, which is surprising given the last years of the pandemic. The opening hours are completely baffling. I’m not sure who the people managing this place think the clientele are anymore. Other local gyms have now overtaken this once-upon-a-time great institution in equipment, hours and cost. It’s a shame.

It's just another Gym... Expected a lot more because of the brand... It's got very good machines and is clean and tidy... Just what a standard gym has always had in Aus. What it misses is the modern day holistic Gym... If you're interested in just weights and a better version of Talwalkers than go ahead..

Great sporting facility! Clean and tidy amenities, large spaces, good variety of group classes to book. The trainers are awesome and super motivating :) Staff is always helpful with bookings and questions. The gym space can be quite crowded at times but there’s a good turnover. I have not tried the pool so far.

I was playing football and I grazed my leg pretty bad and was in panic and extinguished pain. Someone called the lovely staff over and Peter helped calm me down and patch me up. That was very appreciated given I have no medical experience and my anxiety lead me not to freak out.

Staff are normally friendly and helpful. I mainly only play squash, can get quite busy sometimes. Was told one day over the phone that there were no courts available to book but when I checked online they were available. Squash courts are pretty decent, only complaint I have is balls can sometimes get wedged and stuck between the wall.

I have been a member of this gym for 10 years and have just cancelled my membership. While I believe the facilities are generally good, there are a number of significant short comings, that mainly stem from poor management and a lack of transparency. This is fueled by the fact that for many years they have had a captive student population as their main customer base and I believe have become lazy in their willingness to listen to feedback and change policies for the better. These can be summarised as follows:1. Court Hire - There is a lack of common sense and communication with regard to their booking system. They do not provide support for social clubs that have been going for many years. Instead they make block booking for these clubs more expensive and cumbersome and at the sake of the student population who attend. Any communication from the person managing this service is slow or non-existent, making it very difficult to provide feedback and/or submit requests. When responses are received they are usually terse and inflexible.2. Gym Equipment - In general the gym has good equipment, however, bad decisions on removing certain pieces of useful equipment and placing pieces of equipment very close to one another have been made. Reports on broken pieces of equipment are not actioned i.e. the incline bench remained broken for many months.3. Poor weekend/holiday opening hours - To pay a premium for gym membership and then being limited to a gym that closes at 5pm on a Saturday and then is closed early and on all holidays throughout the year leads to frustration and having to pay to attend other gyms that are open. I think the poor opening hours have also been voiced by others in their reviews.4. Vending machines/Products available for purchase - In general the selection of supplements and drinks is very poor and on many occasion vending machines are not out of order. The management could do much better to develop relationship with nutrition companies to stock better products that meet the needs of their gym goers.5. Staff - The staff are generally friendly but ineffective in actioning requests, or perhaps more likely any feedback passed on to management is ignored.6. Direct Debit policy - Finally, upon cancelling membership they point out that there is a 14 day cancellation period. This allows them to take an additional payment from your account for no reason whatsoever.Overall there are lots of excuses based on administrative burden that are used to explain neglect. I expect to get either no response or a very placatory response to this review, but nonetheless thought it was important to share these perspectives with potential new and existing customers.

Gym is great, a good, competitively-priced option for students. I've been doing a lot of the classes and all of the instructors are very motivating and friendly. It's a bit hard to work out the systems and processes at first as there's not necessarily someone explaining things to beginners, but I've just been asking friendly looking people and it's been fine

Melbourne University Sport and Gym is decent place for students and faculty to exercise. There's 4 squash courts, 2 multi-purpose hall that can use for volleyball, basketball, badminton, ping-pong, etc. The sports center also have in-house physio clinic. There's a outdoor courts - basketball, two soccer courts, track&field, and cricket & AFL field. The gym has all the amenities of commercial gym and is connected to an indoor swimming pool. With all that said, comparing to American University this sports facility is quite rundown on terms there's not enough courts and amenities to accommodate the growing numbers of students and faculty (and outsiders). The previous school that I attended (in the USA), the gym was huge, there's 8 basketball courts (also able to play volleyball), 4 badminton courts, 4 squash courts, 8 ping-pong, etc. The gym has wide range of equipments needs of the staff and students.I personally think the Melbourne University sports center needs an upgrade. However, the rates are reasonable for students and faculty comparing to commercial gyms.Overall, Melb Uni gym&sport is decent gym facility. You have to booked the courts if you want to use it and the cost is kinda expensive for students and booking times are quite full during semester. Sorry, I'm being biased as been a student studied at USA University has more benefits than University in Australia.

A nice central spot to have a hit with friends on the court or attend one of the many social events at the location
