Bill and Margaret have worked hard to turn this large property into a wonderful bushland home for over 12,000 native plants. Come and see what you can do with a native garden. Well worth a visit

If you've ever enjoyed the Botanical Gardens, and find yourself near Margate, you should make the time for the work of Bill and Margaret. They are wonderfully pleasant and welcoming, and their dedication to their 22 acres is obvious once you start to stroll. And particularly for those with a botanical interest, Bill is a veritable encyclopedia on scientific and horticultural information.Come with a friend and you can play checkers by the water.Make your way to Margate and say hi to Bill and Margaret for me.

Wonderful private garden - birdwatchers paradise. So much love has gone into this sprawling property. Take a leisurely couple of hours and treat yourself to tea on the terrace.

Hidden gem of a impeccably huge garden which extends all the way to the bay. Owner seems to be enthusiastic and dedicated about the place. Native plants and seedlings for sale too. Worth the $12 entry. I recommend anyone visiting the Margate Train to also check this place out.

A huge native garden with many trails to explore. I love the quirky installations and ornaments scattered throughout the gardens. I'll be back in spring to see the difference vs autumn foliage.

A wonderful outing, short drive south of Hobart, easy access and parking; Over 12 000 Natives, with direct links to the botanists that visited Margaret and Bills 20 acres of land, back in the 1800's. An organised, upper garden, terraced land, bush tracks either side, allowing for a access from north to south. Hoping this iconic native garden remains untouched and protected forevermore. The tea, light beverages and plants for sale, an added bonus.

As a local I have managed not to visit here, despite driving past several times a week. My bad. If you have the time and like a good walk it is a sensational place. Interesting small art installations and pieces of interpretation and poetry. Could use a few more labels on more of the shrubs and trees.

This was as boring as watching paint dry. Bill the owner seemed to be in a bad mood and bored also. His wife appeared to be doing all the hard work. Morning tea was put on for our tour, but for $12a person i think it should have been more than lamington fingers and monte carlo biscuits. I wouldn't recommend the hilly walking ,sans guardrails if you have mobility problems. I felt very unsafe walking around . I can appreciate the hard work they have put lovingly into their garden, but they are not people persons.

This is a simply wonderful reclaimed place that was overrun with blackberry and other noxious weeds. Bill and Margaret have restored it by planting and preserving thousands of native plants which flourish among the whimsical artworks and Bill's poetry. We would love to have had more time here and hope to come back.
