Buttery (Blue Mountains)

I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie and an apple turnover. The chicken pie was dry on the inside and the apple turnover was dry and very stale. I fed them to the birds and felt guilty about it.

Lived in Katoomba for 15 years and have seen ownership of this place change several times. Once an excellent bakery has gone downhill over the years. Quality of food has declined and the prices have increased to a point it's not worth the money for such inferior food. There are other bakeries in the area to try. The Buttery are just in a good location so tourists don't know any better and go there. Last time I ate there I ordered a bacon and egg roll and what was suppose to be bacon was just fat. Threw it away.

Nothing negative to say about service. The man was friendly and prompt. But onto the pie. Ordered a chicken and mushroom pie. In short, disappointing.. mainly due to the filling... Which had barely any chicken, a few mushrooms and was mostly a flour based gravy, heavy on the flour side. And so the flavour was disappointing... Just tasted like a gravy with white wine and butter with hardly any chicken flavour and as previously stated, hardly any chicken. Pastry could've been worse, but was very soggy, meaning the pie practically fell apart in my hands. Sad to say you could get a much better pie from the supermarket. Hopefully they can turn this around.

I got bacon egg roll. Not good value for price ($6.2) also tastes Nothing amazing. It's all right as a quick go to place

OK bakery. The steak pies are mince, rather than steak, but that's standard for Australia where the pies are...well... pretty awful. Otherwise decent enough.

Tried this place about 6 years ago while working in the area, thought it was worth a try again. The pie was possibly one of the best steak and mushroom pies I’ve had for a long time with it not being a chunky, sloppy mess, excellent gravy with the meat and not too jelly like , as other places have, couldn’t find any mushroom but could taste it and pastry was excellent, Sausage roll was great as well. I’ll be back again

Good old fashion pie shop. Pies are good, nice pastry. We also liked the vanilla slice! Also friendly staff. Bear in mind is a takeaway shop so nowhere to sit.

Came up to see the Blue Mountains and find a good Aussie style country bakery, Buttery did not disappoint. Their meat pies are some of the best in Australia! Their marshmallow cones and penguin meringue were very good also. The lamingtons left a bit to be desired tho, needs a lot more icing (it’s very thin, should be able to run a knife down the side of a lamington like slicing cheese and get a couple of millimeters thick of icing) also cake inside is harder on the edges rather than being soft all round.I’m giving Buttery 5 stars for the pies, meringue, marshmallow and friendly service!

This is the best bakery in Katoomba. I love that the hot cross buns cost only $1.80 each and they're delicious. Every pastry I've gotten from here is exceptional and I know some people have been complaining about the change of owners, but these people are really lovely and I hope they have a good day :-)
