You might be happy, you might be educated in a stress free way, you might enjoy the English program without having your favourite media ruined by meaning and pointless essays, and you might enjoy working in a group in the early 2025 ECP program without hating the entirety of your year level even though the intent was to work with your year level, you might not cry. 4 stars

Over-rated. Over-marketed. Values and standards seem to have slipped. Mullets and vaping rules! Much of what is touted our family certainly did not experience! Standard of teaching has declined markedly in our view over the past 5-6 years. Lots of students need external tutoring due to deficiencies with staff. Teachers overworked and stressed. Inconsistencies in how values and standards are applied. Disappointing in the extreme and plenty better schools in the area we believe. Gloss brochures and uniforms don't make a great school.

Sending our children to Girton will forever be the worst decision we have ever made. If you value your child's personal and emotional safety, stay clear of this school, the negative impact this environment can have on a child is devastating. Would not hold out hope for change with a leadership team entrenched in a culture of nepotism and image preservation at all costs. If you're considering this school for your child, make sure you do your research, canvas locals who do not teach at, or have children at the school. Make financial allowances for added extras and the additional tutoring which will be required due to teaching inadequacies. Do not be enticed by the marketing, save your family the trauma and look elsewhere for your child's education. Our children are thriving away from this environment.

A competitive and over-rated school now in my view where the spin doesn't match the reality for at least a number of students and staff. Bullying and pastoral care is a weak point if the many conversations one hears are accurate. (I note some reviews on this site are written by teachers' children). If you are a parent then you may need to be prepared to pay out for extra tutoring and support unless your child is brilliant academically. There seems to be little support for students who have different learning needs in terms of them actually learning as opposed to babysitting and the state system will actually care for them better, is my view. Anecdotally lots of the best teachers have left and there are some who would be better retiring. The stress on students and staff seems very high as they are all pushed hard to perform. This can have serious psychological outcomes and put significant pressure on young people. Inclusivity is paid lip-service but for families we know this was not the reality. There is a high degree of nepotism and you'll find that staff's children get different treatment, whether it be variations on discipline, awards, leadership roles, jobs etc. Very cliquey and about who's who. Or not. There are quite a number of very good options in Bendigo so important to make sure that this really is the best school for your children. This is a highly academic school but in my experience the performances and results are supported heavily by e.g. tutoring and parents. Fees are cost plus with lots of add-ons, levys, etc. etc.

Unless your child is an academic whizz with a very tough hide, avoid the place. We found that victims are blamed, shape up or shop out attitude. Different ways of learning and learning struggles were not addressed. Children can develop dangerously low self-esteem if they are not succeeding Girton-style. The ads make it look amazing and wonderful for all types of students but would recommend checking out other excellent (and way cheaper) options.

Honestly I don't know why people are giving so much hate to this fabulous school. I am a student there, and as a person who has experienced other Bendigo schools as well as Girton I can tell you that this is definitely the school I prefer. Girton has amazing facilities, caring and respectful teachers, and the community that surrounds the school is amazing. I highly recommend this school to all ages, if you want to extend your abilities in class or if even if you think you are falling behind and need some extra help. I couldn't have hoped for a better school and I plan to stay at Girton until the very end.

Made some great friends, well kept grounds. Teachers are supportive of your learning. The school leadership is collapsing. Mediocre if any extension in classwork. Overpriced for what you get but likely still the best school in Bendigo.
