Solomon's Ford (river crossing)
It’s not marked on Google maps but this is a river crossing - you can cross the river here on the rocks/boulders to join the path on the other side. It’s the first time I’m walking here & happy to find that I can actually loop round the river rather than stay only in one side. :)EDIT: If it has rained, there is a chance the water is too high to cross the ford! As I found out the last time I visited.

Solomon's Ford is part of a natural bluestone formation in the bed of the Maribyrnong river. It was initially used by indigenous people as a river crossing. It was first observed by Europeans in 1803 when Charles Grimes' survey party found it to be where the Maribyrnong turned from saltwater to fresh. At that point it divided into multiple streams over the stones there. In the 1830's it became known as Solomon's Ford after a local landowner. But there were three Solomon's (Judah, Joseph and Michael) and more than one ford in a short stretch of river known at one time or another by their name.Local historical debate still rages over the authenticity of calling this place Solomon's Ford. Read Rick Keam's book Keilor to Footscray: Mr Solomon's Maribyrnong" for a recent

Pleasant spot on the river. Generally pretty quiet. Only spot to reliably cross between the pipe bridge at the golf course and the downstream ford at Brimbank Park.

A nice little ford along the Maribyrnong River. There is a trial either side, easy access for bike riding as well as walking. On one side there are some benches to enjoy

Aborigines crossing here for 10k years. Fresh meets saltwater. Europeans camped here on first trip. Super important little place - visit and send a good thought upward for our nation. Cheers! Solomon Ford.

Of great historical significance to the First Nation of this area (Kulin Nation), an easy walk along the Maribyrnong River in Avondale Heights takes you to this place which feels as if you were in the bush. Sadly, Brimbank City Council have permitted building close to the river on their side, so it is not as peaceful as it once was (and hideous homes are within my eyeline when at the river - I so hope having homes this close does not mean a rise in rubbish in the park and waterway, and that the native ducks stay safe!)

Rode past here with some mates on the way to brimbank park. It is a great spot to just sit down and have a drink while you regain some energy. It's also a very quiet area, so you can just spend a couple of minutes there relaxing

Great spot to cross the river to gain access to Sunshine from Avondale Heights. But don't try to after a heavy night of raining.
