Mr Hume Turnbull gave me permission to have a wonderful Memory Lane experiance. I visited Lansdown' many time between 1964 -'68. I was the Cooper Rep based in Charleville. I had made it my last call when transfered and given a Woolpack Lansdowne stencil. Treasure. So 55 years later

I Jackerood here from February to September 1966.It was on the dry side and we were mainly into hand feeding, mustering, cleaning tanks, spraying burr, lamb marking, fire ploughing, shifting wool and drenching. It was mighty hot at times especially during the marking when it wasn't always possible to work between 1000 and 1600 hours so we worked on until 20 or sometimes 2100 hours. We were at the rail by 0700 every morning and took it in turns to run the horses from 0600 or sometimes earlier. We were well fed and earned $8 a week plus keep. There was always great company to be had.On of my responsibilities was to keep any on one of the boys who turned out to be an epileptic which we were unaware of until only his horse pitched up.We eventually found him alive and uninjured having taken a nasty fall whilst running the horses one morning.Pat and Reggie Hamiltonran the motor transport section and were responsible for keeping all the vehicles serviced and repaired ranging from Land Rovers, jeeps, motorbikes, trucks and tractors including a Cat D6 and graders. Our favourite was a WW2 Chevvy 4x4 which became the fire truck and carried two pumps and 600 gallons water to cover 144,000 acres at an average speed of 12 mph off road! The steering wheel was so big that there was a risk of breaking a thumb unless you remembered to keep them both flat on the rim.The station was managed by Mr L Nation and the Overseer was Mr D Hampson. Mr Wood was the Book keeper and Johnny Dowling the sub Overseer. Bill Peachy was the Head Stockman.Peter Hafey looked after lower Lansdowne.Adios for nowNick Forman
