NO Tourist loose another camp site.Mt Isa City Council announced that public access to the area, including the banks of the Georgina River and Lakes Francis and Canellan, would be closed for six months — including for the rest of the 2023 tourist season. The site has been managed by the Myuma Group through a sublease with the council since 2021. Myuma represents the traditional owners of the upper Georgina River region.Would of posted from Council web site, but that was closed as well.

Lake Francis and Canellan are accessible for camping and both are stunning. Busy at Lake Francis and noisy with generators. Lake Canellan still busy but very quiet. Beware of the track here, it is a go slow for sure.

No nothing here - but close enough to town to get water and use dump point. Also the supermarket is in the post office, fuel expensive but no alternative.

Excellent stop for a night or more. Plenty of space either on the river or away from it. Walk into town though there's not a lot there. Very busy petrol station though.

Camooweal Drover Free Camp
Plenty of space, spots for both caravan and 4x4.Further in has less noise from the road trains.Plenty of wildlife; birds, wallaby, cows etc.Free camp up to 48 hours. Toilets available in town, none here. Not to far to camp and head to the pub for dinner.
