what is there not to love, and what is there to say about this place. from the moment you arrive, the staff are courteous, and professional. the experience from get go is, expect to be dazzled and have your tongues wagging for more. the food quality is above exceptional, and all i would say is, don’t not avoid this place and book in advance. i now see why it has a high rating. compliments to the front of house and the chef’s team in the kitchen.

Was trying to get the M9 steak but I only noticed that it has a minimum order after I seated, since I’m having this dinner by myself, I decided to try something different.A small piece of bone was found in kingfish sashimi, close to the skin.Wagyu rump was too dry, can’t see the fat in between the muscles, wondering if there is any marble scores for this one. The menu says it's slow cooked, then it should produce a steak that is tender and juicy on the inside and golden brown and crust on the outside. See image below, it's not better then a $10 steak and you are letting your kids cook it. If you eat a lot high quality Wagyu beef, you can tell by the colour (more if a white pink colour), distribution of fat and of course the taste of it (full of oil, a buttery taste). It's not tender, not juicy, no taste and no fat.Having a high expectation but getting disappoint. At least, the wine was good. Not good for single person dining, you gotta seat at a small corner, with 1/3 of your table on the aisle. One of staff members was literally taking a group of customers to the inside from my side, with people hitting my table, chair and myself, although there is another clear aisle just beside the middle row tables. To be honest, one of my worst dining experience. Gotta come in May again, just to try out the M9 steak.

Black Cow Bistro has the best steak in Australia, hands-down. We had the Porterhouse New York Cut, and Eye Fillet, along with several side dishes. Each dish was cooked to perfection as we cleaned every morsel off our plates. If you love your steak, you have to have a meal here. We have eaten steaks all around the world and this is easily in the Top 1-2 we have eaten. Service was great as they were attentive to our needs (particularly with 2 little ones). One thing would have been great if the restaurant was lit a tad bit brighter. Atmosphere was very dim and without the battery-operated tea light placed on each table, it would have been way too dark.

Great experience, wasabi ponzu oysters were very special. Beetroot relish did great to balance out the fatty rib eye which was also fantastic. Staff were lovely

Nice meal. We ordered slow cooked rump and eye fillet with roasted pumpkin and sweet potato. The rump is excellent. Have to be patient to wait for ur food if starting with mains. Would be ideal if there is more privacy between tables. U can literally hear the whole conversation beside you. Have to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Excellent service and super delicious food and dessert. Must go if you’re travelling to Launceston. Not a spacious restaurant so book in advance is highly recommended, otherwise maybe walk-in at 5:30 when they just open.

I chose Black Cow to dine in for 4-year anniversary and had absolutely no regrets. The place is super nice and warm. Felt luxurious and fine dining. Staff is professional, so responsive and catering for every of my needs. The dry-aged steak is to die for, strong flavour from dry-aged technique and but still soft. The potato layers were smooth and went well with the sauce. Also, the roasted pumpkin yogurt sauce is super yummy and never get bored. We are not really wine person so I couldn’t get much feedback for the wine. The only downside was the oyster. It didn’t have the flavour and creaminess I expect from a fine dining place. However, we came for the steak so it outweighed this downside. Will come back here for sure to try more dish in the future

Quite possibly THE BEST eatery that really highlights Tasmanian produce. The service was immaculate as well as attentive. We celebrated a monumentally epic 6 day hike over Cradle mountain with an equally monumentally epic meal. For entrees we had the scallop and the kingfish dishes. The scallops were pure buttery goodness. Wholesome and plump with just enough crumb and garlic to whet the appetite when lightly annointed with lemon juice. The kingfish was a sophistically assembled dish of light flavours, all delicately balanced and dancing with each other. Light and tangy, delicate and strong, clean flavours intermingling with the heady aromas of the nori crisp.Their attention to each cut of beef is with surgical precision. My fiance had a medium rare eye fillet that you could slice with a spoon.I enjoyed the 600g rib eye fillet that was just cooked medium rare and to absolute perfection. It was juicy, tender, fatty and full of flavour that only comes from aging well and cooking with years of honed experience. The potato gallette was a humble reminder of the honest and earthy delights the rich tasmanian soil can provide. Sauced delicately with a dijon cream and chive, it was almost a pallette clenser between each bite of beef.Pick a side or two. They are generous in portion size and compliment the main attraction. We had the carrots and mushrooms.Find a sauce you like on the list. You wont go wrong.I enjoyed the steak with a robust hot english mustard as well as having a little roast garlic demi glaze. You can taste the hours ov vigilance in the demi glaze base.Treat yourself to a dessert if you can fit one in.The lemon tart is a fantastic palette clenser and can be shared if you feel too full.Choose your wines locally. They really compliment the meal.

Fantastic service. The scallops were juicy, thick and huge. The kingfish was lovely with a hint of hotness with the wasabi. The sweet potato and pumpkin yoghurt dressing was delicious. The $93 medium rare rib eye perfectly cooked, but was chewy. So disappointed. I am not sure if ordering it medium would of made it more palatable, as the end piece was much easier to chew and swallow. The truffle bernaise was excellent and the potato gratin was perfect.
